A Solid Addition to the Baby-Sitters Graphic Novel Series

The Baby-Sitters Club: Stacey's Mistake by Ellen T. Crenshaw

September 29, 2023 by GentleRain Leave a Comment

CBR15Bingo: Nostalgia (a nostalgic series updated for the modern day) I was excited to see this pop up in the bookstore as I’d missed there was a new one in the series coming out. I am a big fan of these graphic novel adaptations of the Baby-Sitters Club series, so it’s always a treat when they release another one. Stacey’s Mistake follows the group going to visit Stacey in New York City, as she moved back to the city for her dad’s job in a […]

Babysitter's Club V05 Dawn and the Impossible Three by Gale Galligan

February 9, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Dawn and the Impossible Three is a comfortable read for an adult and a good read for a kid aged 10 to 13 about rules, making limits, family and dealing with friendship woes. Gale Galligan has adapted the Ann M. Martin original Babysitters Club book, the graphic novels have the feelings of the years the book was set in during the novel. The novels of the Babysitters Club came out around the 1980s and early 1990s. And they dealt with some of the “uniqueness’s” of […]

Kristy's Great Idea (Baby-Sitters Club #1) by Ann M. Martin

April 21, 2020 by cheerbrarian 5 Comments

In this, the time of corona, some people are killing time by embarking on new hobbies. I’m a proud member of the sourdough nation, i.e., those weirdoughs (bread pun!) making homemade starter and bread. I’ve gotten back into adult coloring and, relevant to this review, I’ve taken up reading the first novels of the Babysitters-club books on Facebook live. You miiiiight wonder how exactly I got to here. My favorite podcast, Literary Disco, is doing their part to raise spirits by cranking out more episodes […]

The Baby-Sitters Club in Graphic Novel

June 25, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I do not remember reading the original Babysitters Club by Ann Martin. I was aware of them (my sister had the series) but it was never on my reading pile. I would later read Martin and enjoy her work immensely. Therefore, I was excited to see that Raina Telgemeier had adapted the Babysitters Club into a graphic novel series. Unfortunately, the first one I read seemed dated. It was very much still in the voice of the original printing date. It was not unpleasant, but […]

IDK my BFF Jane?

January 19, 2016 by expandingbookshelf 10 Comments

I went back and forth about reviewing this book. Considering I spend most of my times reviewing nonfiction tomes, it felt weird to review such a short, fun bookette. But Texts From Jane Eyre has become one of my go-to recommendations. It’s an inside joke to all of my fellow book nerds, that yeah, Scarlett O’Hara would totally have texted that annoying crap. The premise is simple enough-what if classic characters from fiction were able to text? Although it seems like a one-note joke, I […]
