My review became longer than the books combined!

Baby Play (Bilingual Portuguese & English) (Barefoot Bilinguals) by Skye Silver

Our World: England by Sumana Seeboruth

Barefoot Baby-Proof: Baby's First Words by Christiane Engel

Feelings & Firsts: Won’t Go! by Sumana Seeboruth

Feelings & Firsts: Not Tired! by Sumana Seeboruth

Recently I received an envelope from Barefoot Press. (I might have cackled, “MINE! MINE! ALL MINE!” I get emotional when my book dealer comes through for me with a fix. And what a fix it was.) There were hardcovers, board books, paperbacks and one of which is an “indestructible paper not board-board books.” I wanted to read then, but decided working probably was more important. I went home, curled up on the couch and started with the board books. The first was Baby Play (Bilingual […]

Not a Disney fairy tale

The Changeling by Victor LaValle

October 29, 2023 by Bothari43 Leave a Comment

I recently ‘retired’ due to health reasons, and this was the first book I’ve read since that I couldn’t put down, and I didn’t have to! That’s a pretty cool feeling. One of my medications forbids me to eat for half an hour after taking it, so I’ve been taking it, reading for 30 minutes, then reading some more when I finally get breakfast. It’s awesome.  Apollo and Emma have what they think is a lovely normal life, including Baby Brian. When Emma starts acting […]

To keep or not to keep that is the question

The Baby-Changing Station by Rhett Miller

October 5, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Forty odd years ago I was asked if I wanted a baby brother or sister. I said sister. I named my new baby doll Baby Sister.  I was into it.  Few weeks after the ol’ sibling came I looked at my mom and said, “Send her back. I want a brother.” I was informed it didn’t work that way. But if I had The Baby-Changing Station like our character in this Rhett Miller book, I would have picked the guitar. Whatever do you mean? You […]

I was going to put all 10 titles under Books, but decided to pick one as felt like cheating

One loud and proud baby

Bye Bye Binary by Eric Geron

May 25, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

This book is exactly how you would expect. Bye Bye Binary is loud. It is bright. It is bold. It is in your face. Even the narrator is loud. No, I did not listen to this on audio. But there is a voice. I could hear the baby of the story yelling all the things they are talking about. When the “outside of the frame voice” asks, “Is it a boy or girl?” The answer is a loud, “What is it to you?!?” scream. “It […]

Not a baby person

You’re Loved by Liz Climo

Meet the Baby, Pout-Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen

September 24, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I am not a baby person. Or so I tell myself. Sure, I wonder why people want a little alien creature, but once they come into this world, I am usually the one that will spoil them with books, ice cream and teach them about Rocky Horror Picture Show. Since all the babies I know currently are not ready for ice cream or Rocky, I will stick with recommending books. If you need a book for a first birthday either of these books work, but […]
