The Disney Characters in the image have nothing to do with the book, I was bored.

Avatar: The Last Airbender: Katara and the Pirates’ Silver by Faith Erin Hicks

January 6, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

All you need to know is that Avatar: The Last Airbender: Katara and the Pirates’ Silver is about Katara and pirates. And it is created by Faith Erin Hicks, Peter Wartman and Adele Matera. But if you need more, our Avatar and his friends Sokka and Toph have a side story, that deals with a Fire Nation/Fire Bender Solider. This man, of course, believes the lies the nation has created about the Air Benders. And Ang takes it upon himself to try and change his […]

A high note to end this run of graphic novels

Avatar the Last Airbender: North and South by Bryan Konietzko, Michael Dante DiMartino, Gene Luen Yang, Gurihiru

Katara and Sokka travel back home for the first time since they left the South Pole to help Aang save the world. It has been quite some time since they’ve been home, and they are shocked to see that the small little village they grew up in has been transformed to a thriving metropolis that looks very similar to the North Pole. The South Pole has been modernized, but not everyone is happy about it. Threats of mutiny and rebellion are growing. Katara, Sokka, and […]

One of my least favorite characters gets her own story; not a lot is accomplished.

Avatar the Last Airbender: Smoke and Shadow by Bryan Konietzko, Michael Dante DiMartino, Gene Luen Yang, Gurihiru

December 24, 2020 by Mobius_Walker 2 Comments

Mai’s father, Ukano, is visited by dark spirits in the middle of the night with threats and warnings that Zuko is not the Fire Lord that the Fire Nation needs. Ukano, who already had formed a secret society to put Ozai back on the throne, uses this premonition as fuel for his cause: Zuko must be removed because he is weak. As evidence of this, the spirits that visit Ukano are kidnapping children from the village and the Fire Lord is powerless to stop. Fire […]

If you want to know what happened after the last season of Avatar: The Lat Airbender

If you have not seen the Avatar: The Last Airbender television series, these books might not be something you want to start with. However, I recommend watching it even though I know it was aimed at kids. There are sophisticated themes that at the time were coming to light, and we’re still dealing with today, that will engage the adult viewer. I admit I was a skeptic at first, but the humor and depth of the story pulled me in. And seriously who wouldn’t fall […]

“People shouldn’t have everything they want. No one is entitled to their every desire. To live in balance, we must willingly decide not to take all that we can from the world, and from others.”

The Shadow of Kyoshi (The Kyoshi Novels, #2) by F.C. Yee

Super quick review on this one, because I read this and the first one back to back, so they’re a bit blurred in my memory. I do remember I liked the first one just a bit more. Yee continues Avatar Kyoshi’s story as she claims her Avatarhood. She doesn’t have advisors or mentors like most Avatars, and she has to figure it out all on her own. Like we saw of Kyoshi in A:TLA, she is hyper-focused on the concept of justice. But what is […]

This is a media-tie in novel, but it’s also just a good fantasy novel.

The Rise of Kyoshi (The Kyoshi Novels, #1) by F.C. Yee

This was so good! I hope there are ten more of them. I watched Avatar: The Last Airbender when it was on Netflix the first time, around 2010 or so, and fell in love with it. I rewatched it probably three times in the next couple years, and then one day it was gone from Netflix. This was sad. So I had to buy the DVDs. Since then, about once a year I just get this craving to return to this world and rewatch, and I’ve […]
