Pirriwee Public School holds a killer Trivia Night Fundraiser

March 31, 2017 by Gracey the Giant 4 Comments

Prior to reading Big Little Lies, I had never read a Liane Moriarty novel before.  But, I have to say, it was pretty good.  It was a quick, engaging read but not empty fluff like quick reads can often be. I will say though that after the first chapter, I was worried that it was going to be empty fluff.  I mean, the name of the school is Pirriwee Public School and while I know elementary schools are often given twee names, that’s an awfully twee […]

Sometimes you just need a little lightness

March 23, 2017 by Ellepkay 7 Comments

Thanks goes out to the CBR romance crew for introducing me to this sweet book.  Orleanas introduced it, and it kept getting good reviews, so I had to try it too.  What can I say?  I’m easily persuadable.   It’s a very light, contemporary M/M story.  So light that I have very little to say about it, but I’ll give it a try since this is a pleasant story and I’m happy to recommend it. Henry Beckett is 35 and recently dumped by his long-term […]

I’ll maybe think of a witty title when I stop crying….

February 16, 2017 by kella 2 Comments

First piece of advice: if you hypothetically happen to already be a crazy ball of PMS-ing emotions, maybe give this one a pass until next week.  Unless you’re a fan of messy, snotty, tears.  Hypothetically. This book centres on Tom and his wife Isabel,  just after WWI.  Tom is a lighthouse keeper on a remote island off the coast of Australia- isolated from anyone except his wife; a supply boat comes every three months, and they get to visit the mainland once every three years. […]

Temeraire Down Under

June 25, 2016 by borisanne Leave a Comment

Let’s be real: Temeraire is the Forrest Gump of dragons. He goes everywhere, just when the action where he happens to be is most important. World history hinges on his behavior. He meets all the famous people and gets to be on a first name basis with all of them. And we get to go with him and see the entire world. THE ENTIRE WORLD! This time, we get on a dragon transport and travel with Will Laurence and Temeraire to Australia. Having had a […]

I hate you, but I kinda understand you… Now let me go back home

May 31, 2016 by Andrea Krieter Leave a Comment

Rating: 3.5/5 Summary: Gemma Toombs is a sixteen year old with wealthy parents who like the travel. While in Bangkok airport, Gemma meets Ty who at first glance seems oddly familiar. Ty kidnaps Gemma and takes her to the middle of nowhere in one of Australia’s deserts. Gemma launches multiple escape attempts, but she can’t ever seem to escape Ty and his desert home. I think what most surprised me about this book was how much I actually enjoyed it. I picked up this […]

The Wide Brown Land

March 27, 2016 by Ellesfena 3 Comments

“This is a country that is at once staggeringly empty and yet packed with stuff. Interesting stuff, ancient stuff, stuff not readily explained. Stuff yet to be found.” Every time I read this book it reawakens in me a longing to visit Australia. I want to see literally every place Bill Bryson visits. I can’t get enough information about the animals and plants (whenever I reread it, my Google search history is full of tingle trees, potoroos, cassowaries, and box jellyfish). What is it like to ride […]
