Video Games and the “Real World”

Press Start to Play by Daniel H. Wilson, John Joseph Adams, Ernest Cline

July 7, 2020 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo Review 2: Shelfie I honestly have no idea how long Press Start to Play has been on my literal TBR shelf, but it’s been a while. I figured this was as good a reason as any to finally pick it up, especially since I actually broke down and bought a Nintendo Switch Light a few weeks ago. I’ve never been much of a gamer; I didn’t grow up with it really, unless you count the educational stuff like Oregon Trail and Number Munchers. I […]

Episode 1-33: We’re Here, We’re Queer, Get Used to It

September 4, 2018 by prisco Leave a Comment

https://killingmykindle.com/2018/09/04/episode-1-33-were-here-were-queer-get-used-to-it/ Wherein I review: 128. Hiddensee by Gregory Maguire 129. Crooked by Austin Grossman 130. The Steel Remains (A Land Fit For Heroes #1) by Richard K. Morgan 131. Hollywood Dead (Sandman Slim #10) by Richard Kadrey 132. Bloody Rose (The Band #2) by Nicholas Eames 133. The Invisible Library (Invisible Library #1) by Genevieve Cogman I wax ecstatic over the recent trend of inclusion of homosexuality in fantasy and fiction and how it makes all the neckbeards cry into their fedoras.  Gregory Maguire brings […]

I should let my kid pick more often – Review #3

December 22, 2016 by FyreHaar 3 Comments

Yeah baby – up to three reviews! I’m reviewing this book the same day I finished reading it, which means that Satan is skating to work. I was in the library with my four year old and told her to pick a book for me to read. She pointed out this one:   I like super heroes, so I went with it.  It took me a month to start reading it because anxiety sucks a fat one but once I did start I was pleasantly […]

Not fun like I wanted it to be.

I liked this, didn’t love it. I think Austin Grossman and I just don’t blend well as reader/writer. And it all started out so well! The book begins from the point of view of Dr. Impossible as he reflects from prison on his life and career as a supervillain. He has been arrested twelve times now, after having almost destroyed the world and/or conquered it, also twelve times. His nemesis is CoreFire, leader of a group of superheroes not unlike the Avengers. The world they live in […]
