Someone should turn this dull book into a cute film.

The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston

November 12, 2025 by carmelpie Leave a Comment

“We are going out. Clearly I had a bad day, and by the looks of the new books on the counter, you did, too.” ― Ashley Poston, The Dead Romantics Florence Day has secrets. She’s a ghostwriter for one of the world’s most famous romance novelists, Ann Nichols. After her own debut novel flopped, Florence picked up a sweet job ghostwriting bestsellers. No one except Ann, her publisher, and Florence’s best friend Rose know this. Despite her success, Florence is struggling to finish the final […]

Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston

Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston

“Sounds Like Love” has Joni Lark (yes that is her name) feeling out of sorts while at a concert listening to a singer sing one of the songs that she wrote. Joni is a song-writer though lately she hasn’t been writing anything. Instead she partly dreads and is looking forward to returning to her hometown in North Carolina to spend time with her family and best friend. Joni though realizes that not only is her family and friends, and the musical hall her family owns […]

A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston

A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston

I went back and forth on the rating on this one, and only because parts of it dragged. However, when Poston got into the rhythm of the book it really came together. How many romance readers among us would not love to be able to step into a romance series we love? It was a great premise and I liked the magical realism parts of the book a lot. I think the biggest issue I had was liking the character of Eileen. I just found […]

The Dead Romantics by Ashely Poston

June 21, 2025 by Zirza 1 Comment

Florence ‘Flo’ Day is a novelist with one not very successful novel to her name. She has been working as a ghost writer for a famous novelist, but since her grade a dickback boyfriend quite literally dumped her she can’t find her groove. Her super sexy new editor tells her to get her ass in gear, but she can’t – and then her beloved father dies, her world shatters, and she returns home to the town she fled when she was eighteen.  You see, Flo […]

Welcome to the Dead Dads Club, Florence…(sniffle)

The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston

March 20, 2024 by Melina 2 Comments

Let me start by saying I judged this book before reading it. I picked it because I thought it would be fluffy. This book reached into my heart and squeezed it hard; probing me for grief I had forgotten about. It made me laugh and remember amazing things about my own family at a specific time in my life.  It left me so very very satisfied and yet grief stricken while giggling sometimes. This book is anything but fluff, but it’s also not a deep […]

(Most of) The Improbable Meet-Cute Collection

Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne

Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jiminez

Drop, Cover, and Hold On by Jasmine Guillory

The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren

With Any Luck by Ashley Poston

“Improbable Meet Cute” is a great concept for a short story/not quite a novella collection! The “Amazon Original Stories” branding makes me nervous because it just screams “Do it for the publicity instead of the money because we said so!”,  so I made a point of paying for all five stories to support the authors. In reviewing them, I am tried to decide if they should be appreciated as a delightful, self-contained jewel or as something that leaves you wanting more like a  novella or even […]
