Astrid Parker’s No Good, Very Bad Case of Comphet

Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail by Ashley Herring Blake

December 11, 2022 by Abi 3 Comments

I have been waiting for Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail for months. Ever since I read Delilah Green Doesn’t Care back in June as the first in my spree of reading every sapphic romance I could get my hands on. I realise this isn’t as long as many people wait for books, I myself used to be someone waiting for Winds of Winter before losing interest some years back, but I’ve been impatient, and I’ve been a good girl and sometimes I get nice things, even […]

a sweet little sapphic romance

Delilah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake

CBR Bingo: Heart (’cause, romance, obvs) I added this to my library holds list because I kept seeing it recommended seemingly everywhere I turned, so okay! fine! also because with all the serious reading I’ve been doing, I do need some books that lighten up the mood a bit. (Also, this came in when I had 7 hours of driving on deck, so I needed a good car listen.) The summary is pretty straightforward: Delilah Green, struggling art photographer and love-’em-and-leave-’em lesbian, caves to the […]

Hallmark, But Make it Gay

Delilah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake

July 21, 2022 by Abi 5 Comments

Sometimes you start a book and within a few pages know the pretty much all of the emotional beats of where it’s going. And sometimes that doesn’t slightly matter, you’re going to have so much fun along the way that you won’t care. A member of the romantic subgenre I saw coined on TikTok recently “Romance books with two cartoon illustration characters on the cover”, I was in love with Delilah Green from the moment I saw her on the front. What can I say, […]

in the same vein, but the opposite of a reality cooking tv show

Delilah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake

I liked this book, and all the things it was and wasn’t. Was: a sapphic, small town, reunited after many years but not in a “we used to date and I have alwayssssssss loooooooooovvvedddddddd youuuuuuuuu I haveeee alwayssss loved you I have etc” type of way. Multiple female friends! Satisfying takedown you know is coming because this is fiction, not real life, and rich people haven’t stacked the deck everywhere. Wasn’t: a barrel of baggage (not a thing I want! ymmv!)–there’s a frisson of it, […]
