“Not caring was fucking exhausting.”

Deliliah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake

July 2, 2025 by Nart Leave a Comment

Sometimes, you need to go a long way to get home. Plot: Delilah Green finally escaped her reluctant step mother and sister and their absolutely stifling small town. Despite the small apartment and mostly casual connections she has made as a struggling artist in New York, she feels like she can properly breath for the first time. Her step family isn’t done with her though, and she is cajoled into coming home for her step-sister’s wedding – as the photographer. Hey, what’s a bit […]

Make the Season Bright by Ashley Herring Blake

February 13, 2025 by Zirza Leave a Comment

Make the Season Bright – Because one of the main characters is called Brighton, get it?  Charlotte Donovan is a successful musician, living the dream in New York. She is a violinist in a string quartet, about to set off on a huge European tour. First, though, Charlotte must survive December, the month when her life usually comes off the rails. December is when Charlotte becomes extra accident-prone. Worse, it’s the month in which her fiancée Brighon left her at the altar. To help her […]

“If eyes were the windows into the soul, Delilah’s had long been shuttered.”

Delilah Green Doesn't Care by Ashley Herring Blake

4.5 stars CBR16 Sweet Books: New (author and series) CBR16 Book Bingo: Pride Delilah Green grew up in Bright Falls, in the care of her wealthy, but emotionally cold stepmother (after her father died), and never managed to forge a connection to her always perfect stepsister Astrid either. Astrid had her two best friends, Claire and Iris, and more than once Delilah overheard them saying mean things about her. When she got the chance, she left Bright Falls for New York and has rarely been back […]

Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail by Ashley Herring Blake

Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail by Ashley Herring Blake

Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail. Let me repeat that. ASTRID PARKER DOESN’T FAIL! She is a successful businesswoman who broke out of a terrible engagement, kicks ass at everything she sets her mind to, and is extremely happy! Right? Spoiler Alert, she isn’t extremely happy. She isn’t even a little happy. She runs a decorating business, not because she chose it, but because it was what her mother expected her to do. After running into a cute carpenter (literally), she realizes that every decision in her […]

less engrossing second outing

Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail by Ashley Herring Blake

Much like Britt, I think I found this book serviceable but not memorable. Which is a pity, because I think unlike many other “universe” type books, Blake does a good job in interlacing her prior characters into the background of her next novel–Delilah Green and Claire (and Ruby!) are solid secondary characters in the tale of Astrid, who Delilah continues to call Ass. But now it’s done fondly, one would hope. So, Astrid. She’s a Boss Lady in a Tiny Town, basically the first half […]

Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail (Bright Falls, #2) by Ashley Herring Blake

Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC. It hasn’t affected the contents of my review. This was a teeny bit of a disappointment for me after having loved Delilah Green Doesn’t Care so much, but it was still good! Just not a favorite. We’re following Delilah’s Type-A sister, Astrid, and another character named Jordan as they fall in lurve. Astrid has been hired as the designer for the renovation of the Everwood Inn, a locally famous inn that is supposedly haunted. They are televising the renovation […]
