Let’s keep all the Holmes’ together

Sherlock Holmes #3 The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle

Enola Holmes #9 Enola Holmes and the Mark of the Mongoose by Nancy Springer

Sherlock Holmes #6 The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle

October 27, 2023 by kfishgirl 1 Comment

So I got into Sherlock Holmes via his sister Enola. I read all of the Enola Holmes books when my niece wanted to watch the movies on Netflix a bit ago. I love her as a character, and Sherlock is in most of her books, so I figured I’d check him out. I must say I like Enola’s Sherlock better than the original Sherlock. He’s a bit prickly and I think has some untreated mental disorders. This book is a collection of short stories, which […]

Elementary, my dear reader

Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock (Who Wrote Classics)  by Linda Bailey

September 19, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Ages ago I found an online reader link to a book. It looked interesting, but not one I wanted to read right away. I put it in my saved links and forgot about it, until one day I was going through those saved links and found Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock (Who Wrote Classics) by Linda Bailey again. It is a clever telling of the life and times of the author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The narrator tells us this story as if the two of us (narrator […]

The Lost World by Arthur Conan

The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle

April 28, 2022 by MarkAbaddon 1 Comment

As a huge fan of Doyle, and knowing the influence this book has had on fantasy, I saw an edition of The Lost World from a printing in the early 1970s at a used book store and immediately purchased it. Oy, what a mistake. I am aware that Holmes has been accused of being misogynistic and there are elements of racism within those books but man did Doyle let his id out of control in this novel. I literally hated every single one of these […]

An open letter to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Anna Waterhouse

Mycroft and Sherlock: The Empty Birdcage by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Anna Waterhouse

February 2, 2020 by KimMiE" Leave a Comment

Mr. Abdul-Jabbar and Ms. Waterhouse, Thank you for hearing my plea for more volumes in your wonderful Mycroft Holmes series. As I noted in my review of the first two novels, these books bring me such pure joy that as soon as I put one down, I regret having read so quickly. On top of that, this latest novel had me thinking that surely someone must be contemplating a movie or television series so I can enjoy the stories again in another dimension. To that […]

She has fainted from ill-usage and exhaustion.

Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle

December 16, 2019 by Leedock 4 Comments

Nope. I think that I can now honestly say that I am not a fan of Sherlock Holmes. Give me all of the re-tellings, please, but spare me the prototype. I tried. I really, really tried. I should not have to try so hard. While I did appreciate A Study in Scarlet, the terrible (and worst book of the year for me) The Sign of Four took way too much time out of my life that I will never get back. Sadly, I am afraid that this gothic […]

…in which love and Mormonism bore a part.

A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle

CBR11 BINGO: Classics (BINGO! Youth square to Banned square) FINALLY! I know that I am so amazingly late to this party, but here I am. I missed the CBR Book Club reading of this. I have read the Lady Sherlock Series (Sherry Thomas) and the AMAZING The Affair of the Mysterious Letter (Alexis Hall) re-tellings. I watched the PBS show and the RDJ movies but never read any ACTUAL Sherlock Holmes stories or novels. Now I have. Ta-da! As I suspected, the bulk of the book was about Sherlock and his crazy mind. […]
