Bird Box – The Post-Apocalyptic Book that Dreams (Nightmares) Are Made of

Bird Box by Josh Malerman

March 3, 2019 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

I discovered this book all on my own, a little unknown unassuming book at the library. (Jk. This book is everywhere). Unless you’ve been gone in some remote location you have heard of this book, or at least, heard of the Netflix movie of the same name, starring America’s favorite FBI beauty contestant, the delightful Sandra Bullock. Sandra is having a pretty bad time though, in his post-apocalyptic dystopian nightmare, where the sight of something, some unknown creature, drives people almost instantly mad and violent […]

When one book gives you a lot of slow kicks

October 22, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I finished Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel for the So Popular! for the cbr10bingo. Now, the book is not bad. Not by a long shot. I just found it slow. Therefore, I thought I was going to have to review only half of the book. There is a lot of buildup leading one to think course there is going to be a big explosive ending! Wrong. It somewhat fizzled at the end. However, it kept to the tone of the book. The whole […]

3.5 Stars I found The Last One from a link that said if you liked Wonder Woman, you’ll like these books. I read the description, and thought that maybe it would be too much for me (I do not like scary things AT ALL, I am a big wimp), but I made it through and I liked it well enough. The book tells the story of reality show contestants sent off into the woods and put through the usual team and individual challenges in order to survive. The […]

Some thoughts on the zombie genre.

February 7, 2016 by Blingle Bells 6 Comments

This book is shit. It’s not a “different people like different things” situation. If you enjoyed this book, I’m sorry, but you’re wrong. Yes, your enjoyment is wrong. The number of good reviews that this has on Goodreads and Amazon is appalling, but still not as appalling as this sorry excuse for a garbage fire of a book. I am actually offended by how bad this book is. Let’s unpack this. First, maybe you’re thinking “If it’s so bad, why did you read it?” Well, […]
