Let’s get this out of the way: All The Light is a long book. 531 pages long. This is the second longest book I’ve read this year (the winner of that award is still Afterwords) and man, it felt it. That’s not to say it isn’t a good book; it’s beautiful and visual and broken up into mostly short chapters of just a few pages, but it. is. long. Towards the end, this turned into a book that I was reading just to get through it, not […]
I bought the hardback.
Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See has been on a lot of lists recently and I can certainly see why. Bear with me – I finished it a couple months ago, but have been too busy to write up any of my books, so I might not recall all the reasons it’s so wonderful. Marie-Laure is a blind Parisian girl whose father works at the Museum of Natural History. When she goes blind at age 6, her father builds a to-scale model of their neighborhood so she can learn her way around gradually. Then the Nazis occupy Paris. FINALLY got to read this. Totally worth the wait.
This book has been making the 2014 Best-of Lists, as well as the round amongst my friends and Cannonball Readers. Of course, that also means it’s been impossible to lay hold of a copy at my library, so I’ve been waiting for months. And when I finally got it in my mitts, I devoured it like a box of chocolates. I’ve read a lot of great books already for CBR7, and this is already a favorite. The novel tells the story of two different people: […]
“Open your eyes and see what you can with them before they close forever.”
I loved this one. And I think I might be the first one to review it for Cannonball… and I think some of you will love it too. I wasn’t really sure about All the Light We Cannot See when I decided to put a hold on it at my library (which has quickly escalated into an addiction in case you were wondering, I have approximately 20 books on holds which will deliver them to my library over the next 6 months). I based my […]
