Claudia and the Story of Boys Will be Boys

Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls by Ann M. Martin

Boy oh boy am I behind in my reviews! Whatever could be distracting me? Pandemic perhaps?? I have it in my head that I shouldn’t be reading new books until I’ve reviewed the old ones which is causing some counter productivity but NO MAS. Gonna get these down and raise my head high. I’m not typically one for YA or youth books, but decided in this time of chaos to pick up a new hobby, specifically, read the Baby-sitters Club books on Facebook Live to […]

In which middle-schoolers create a price fixing cartel. My brother used to read and love these books and my older sisters and my mom used to really give him crap for it in some real internalized misogyny kind of way. In this, the time of corona, some people are killing time by embarking on new hobbies. I’m a proud member of the sourdough nation, i.e., those weirdoughs (bread pun!) making homemade starter and bread. I’ve gotten back into adult coloring and, relevant to this review, I’ve taken up reading the first novels of the Babysitters-club books on Facebook live. You miiiiight wonder how exactly I got to here. My favorite podcast, Literary Disco, is doing their part to raise spirits by cranking out more episodes […]

A tender look into the mind of a girl with Asperger’s.

I never read the Baby-Sitters Club series as a kid (my mom was all about her kids reading classics and not paperbacks), so I missed out on that cultural phenomenon. I did know who Ann M. Martin was, and when I was browsing books at Barnes and Noble, I saw a new book of hers that was not at all Baby-Sitters Club-related. The book jacket description intrigued me, and I put in a hold at the library. I admit that while I have a soft […]
