Thin Air

Thin Air by Ann Cleeves

March 24, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I really enjoyed this one. I think it was because the mystery in this one at least made better sense than the last one. It wasn’t great either, but there were clues there that you could follow in retrospect after you got to the end. “Thin Air” takes place 6 months after the events in the last book, “Dead Water”. We follow Inspector Jimmy Perez as he is called away to help find a missing woman who was in Shetland for a wedding party. Many […]

Dead Water

Dead Water by Ann Cleeves

So, we are back here again. I almost passed on reading this since I am still super ticked about the events in the last book. But this came up after being on hold for about 2 months so I decided to read. And then the next book in the series came up for me about 2 hours later. Apparently the Book Gods want me to give this series another go. And I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. This was an interesting mystery and […]

Blue Lightning

Blue Lightning by Ann Cleeves

I don’t know what to say. I have only been in this situation with Elizabeth George and I ended up just giving up on her series. I don’t know if I will finish this series. I don’t see the point. I am honestly so aggravated. Probably because the mystery/flow in this one was so good. And I loved the characters of Jimmy and Fran. Jimmy taking Fran to visit his mother and father and to have a celebration of their upcoming wedding was an interesting […]

Red Bones

Red Bones by Ann Cleeves

So this was a mess. Nothing made sense and I just wanted this book to be over. I fell asleep a few times while reading this. I think the main issue is that we follow Sandy through a lot of this book and he’s not an engaging character. I read “Blue Lightning” right after this and I am going to regret that forever. I don’t know if I will finish the series after that book. I think the reason why I just didn’t get into […]

The Girls on the Shore

The Girls on the Shore by Ann Cleeves

January 24, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

So that was a disappointment. I have read other short stories by Cleeves before and this one was just kind of set before you with I thought way too many adults ignoring the situation that is revealed to us. No spoilers but I really wanted to go so are you an officer or not to DI Matthew Venn and then later to his colleague Jen that shows up. I will say that the first part of the book with Venn spying two girls walking along […]

The Heron’s Cry

The Heron's Cry by Ann Cleeves

January 24, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Not a bad book. But it did get very complicated towards the end. I still loved visiting with DI Matthew Venn and the rest of the community though. The biggest issue I had with this book though is that you can kind of understand the why behind the first murder, but the rest of the case and how it went just had me going really after a while when you get to the reveals. I am sure someone out there has noted plot holes. The […]
