I AM THE WORST!

January 10, 2018 by KM Bezner 1 Comment

I really identified with the poor bunny crying those words at the beginning of this story.

Cracked, plain and simple.

October 6, 2017 by Blingle Bells Leave a Comment

Have you ever read a Cracked.com article? It’s a website with clickbait-y titles (6 Animals That Are Secret Badasses! 5 Ways College Makes You Dumber!) with pretty substantial content. It’s been around forever. I’ve been reading it for 7 or 8 years and it’s definitely older than that. If you’re familiar with it, do you like it? If so, good news, this is basically 200 or so pages of Cracked articles. Your mileage with that, I guess, depends entirely on whether you enjoy Cracked.com. The […]

“Not right now. I’m not wearing my stabby clothes.”

March 16, 2016 by NVVN Leave a Comment

You ever have one of those days when you find bits of a corpse, but it doesn’t belong to any of the zombies?  Foxtrot has and it’s not even the weirdest part of her day.  Actually, it’s just another day working at her boss ZZ’s mansion, where there are always guests (who are often weird), zoo animals to take care of (yes, ZZ has a zoo on her estate) and a spiritual Crossroads to maintain. The zombies aren’t real (they’re part of a film set), […]

Hamlet. But with dogs. And not as good.

October 17, 2014 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

I just now realized that I never reviewed this book that I finished at the beginning of September so this review is under some serious mental cobwebs. Suffice it to say if I had been fired up about the novel, I would have reviewed it at the time. Edgar, born mute, lives with his family on their farm breeding and raising dogs. It’s not an easy life, but it is a good one. When his estranged uncle returns and his father dies tragically, Edgar’s world […]

A History of Animal Abuse

September 20, 2014 by Sophia Leave a Comment

“…as Oliver Wendell Holmes says, a weak mind does not accumulate force enough to hurt itself.” (61) I am an animal lover, so when I first spotted Animal Madness: How Anxious Dogs, Compulsive Parrots, and Elephants in Recovery Help Us Understand Ourselves (2014) by Laurel Braitman at my local Costco, I was intrigued. I imagined in-depth stories of animals that have made miraculous recoveries. I wanted inspiring tales of elephants with new best friends and dogs who become miraculously happy and well-adjusted. I was really […]

The Happiest Dog in Town

February 1, 2014 by abby awesomeness 6 Comments

Because of Winn-Dixie is an amazing book about a girl named Opal who moves to Florida with her father and finds a dog in a supermarket. She names him after the store and claims he is hers. She immediately falls in love with him because of his toothy grin and his fun-loving nature. She brings him home and introduces him to the preacher, her father. His father is unsure about Winn-Dixie at first but Opal talks him into keeping him. He has bald spots, smells […]
