A Goby fishy tells you a story about their home

Coral Reefs: Cities of the Ocean by Maris Wicks

April 29, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I will start off with, this is a book about coral reefs, so how did they manage to add at least two fart jokes and a belch? Very ingeniously! Coral Reefs: Cities of the Ocean is the basics of coral reefs. We see how they have inspired human inventions and architecture by the size, shapes, forms, and even the creatures that live among them. While the images are almost basic, there is a lot of goodness packed in. However, most pages are not too crowded. […]

There are more words in the publisher description than the whole book

Baboon! by Pau

April 27, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Comment one: There are more words in the publisher description, or this review, then there are in the entire book of Baboon! by Pau/Pablo Marcos, as it is a wordless graphic novel. Comment two: I cannot say it better so word for word the publisher’s description: “After the death of its adopted leopard mother, an orphaned baboon wanders the wild in search of companionship and a sense of identity. Stumbling upon the troop of baboons from which it was originally stolen, the baboon falls in […]

I Was Born a Baby, too!

I Was Born a Baby by Meg Fleming

April 27, 2022 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

I did not realize I Was Born a Baby was by Meg Fleming when I picked it up. Why I say this is that Fleming is the author of Wondering Around another book I recently read and reviewed. I did not know because the illustrations by Brandon James Scott are different from Wondering Around, as well as the tone itself is different. Therefore, if you do not like one, try the other. I had seen I Was Born a Baby in a newsletter (this is […]

I liked that mouse with the ball, but the story was good too

Something Beautiful by Lita Judge

April 25, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Something Beautiful is a totally modern idea of how all of us are beautiful in our own ways. It does not matter if you are a mouse who likes to play with your ball by yourself, or an elephant who asks to play. Nor does it matter if you are a porcupine that looks different, acts different and has new games to try. It does not even matter if you are a lion who likes to sit and watch for the beautiful things around you. […]

Must love cats

P Is for Purr by Carole Gerber

April 19, 2022 by BlackRaven 1 Comment

P Is for Purr and for Perfect, and Packed, and Powerful and Pretentious. And only three of those descriptor words are correct to describe this book (if you cannot guess, it is not pretentious). This is an alphabet book that takes basic or common things about cats (they purr for P) and some educational things (X for Xanthus Av Jostedalsbreen or Norwegian Forest Cat) and makes a cute book for cat lovers of all ages. Carole Gerber and Susanna Covelli must love cats. A lot. […]

When you think you’re a bad mom read this

There are Moms Way Worse Than You: Irrefutable Proof That You Are Indeed a Fantastic Parent by Glenn Boozan

April 7, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Bahahahaaha! OMG! Moms (and dads, too), if you think you are a bad parent, just remember all the wonderful things you did NOT do…like drink the blood of your child (looking at you Dracula ant), or feed your child your poop (koalas are obviously crappy cooks) or drop them 8 feet then kicked them because they were not moving fast enough (thanks giraffe moms) or toss your child to the dingoes (Quokka moms are unable to say that). This humorous book has a name longer […]
