We’re talking kings and successions

Warriors: Winds of Change by Erin Hunter

June 28, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Warriors: Winds of Change is an enjoyable graphic novel story. Even though, it can be a standalone title, I probably needed to have a little more background about the Warriors series and their world to understand some of the backstory of where the characters are from. There are several points about their religion, the idea of littermates and the rivalry between clans though might have been cleared up. Yet, the stronger reader could pick up some of that while reading. Erin Hunter’s anthropomorphic cats are […]

I might pick on the frogs in this review but there is an elephant too

It's Tough to Be Tiny by Kim Woolcock

June 28, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

What if I told you that being small was not as bad as it might seem? In fact, it can be cool. Oh sure, we vertically challenged people might not be able to reach the average height shelf in the store and have to smile nicely to the tall gentleman for assistance, but if you were some of the animals in It’s Tough to Be Tiny you would be the cat’s meow, bees’ knees and frog of the bog! Kim Woolcock writes about the tiny […]

The racing striped and helmeted tortoise

Hurry, Little Tortoise, Time for School by Carrie Finison

June 22, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I am not always a fan of “the turtle or tortoise or snail comes in last because they are slow” stories.  (I still cringe at the end scene in Monsters University where the snail-monster-student gets to class after the year has ended.) Now, I do not necessarily want them to be first, (Tortoise and the Hair is great, just not all the time), I want to see other animals have the distinction of being last, or the slow one. I mean, we all have a […]

It’s bad to be good

Little Good Wolf by Susan Stevens Crummel

June 17, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

This review has a few spoilers     I was really getting into the story of Little Good Wolf. Little Good Wolf plays with the piggies, cleans his room, brushes his teeth, takes baths, and even reads bedtime stories to himself. His parents are truly fed up with his actions, so they know drastic measures need to be taken. They must send him to Bad School. But no matter how hard his teachers try to teach him bad manners, clubbing people with clubs, and […]

One Day On Our Blue Planet: In the Outback by Ella Bailey

June 10, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Georgia, one late October day, notices that things are moving about. They are even disappearing. Of course, our gal knows that this has a very logical explanation. Unlike others (especially at that time of year) who think things were moved about by something (or someone) spooky, she knows that ghouls are not mischievous, but the squirrel, the shadows, the cat, and dog all have something to do with it. Yet, maybe, juuuuust maaaaybe something else is going on? Afterall, Ella Bailey’s text is saying on […]

Down on the farm

Farm Crimes V01: Cracking the Case of the Missing Egg by Sandra Dumais

Farm Crimes V02: the Moo-Sterious Disappearance of Cow by Sandra Dumais

June 10, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

If Doctor Dolittle and Amelia Bedelia had a child, it would be the Inspector. Columbo looks like Sherlock Holmes in comparison to Van Hoof! To say Inspector Billiam Van Hoof is bumbling is an understatement. But ages six to nine will be rolling in the cow patties laughing at the antics our not-so-heroic hero. In Farm Crimes V01: Cracking the Case of the Missing Egg our hero gets lost on the way to the farm (at the bottom of the hill that he lives on […]
