Getting lost and found again

Home Away From Home by Cynthia Lord

August 8, 2024 by cosbrarian Leave a Comment

Mia is visiting her grandmother in Maine on her own for the first time. This would be exciting, but the reason her mom is staying behind is to sell their old family house, so they can move in with her new boyfriend. The changes are freaking Mia out a little, so she’s glad to visit her reliable Grandma in the small town of Stone Harbour. But when she arrives, she finds that things have changed at Grandma’s too – a boy about her age named […]

I wanted a title that represented the fact that, yes, there are religious themes, but not that would turn people off as they can just be “Nope!” to that theme, but they are really nice books, even if they aren’t your thing.

Lullaby for the King by Nikki Grimes

Home Is Right Where You Are: Inspired by Psalm 23 by Ruth Chou Simons

One does not just say you should read Lullaby for the King by Nikki Grimes and illustrated by Michelle Carlos to just anyone. You do, however, say, “This was a lovely story that if you have a need for a Christian book that is about the Christ child’s birth, and you do not want a fluffy book, a Santa/Christmas book or has only people in it, you should give this a chance.”  This story starts off and finishes on a poetic note. Things flow and […]

I hit the 7th Cannonball with pun and fun

Deep Thoughts from a Shallow Grave: Epitaphs to Die For by Anthony Martignetti

The Man Who Didn't Like Animals by Deborah Underwood

August 2, 2024 by BlackRaven 3 Comments

I like to read and I enjoy writing reviews. But sometimes a book is not able to produce a long review. There isn’t a lot to say, or if you do, there are more words in your review than the actual book. These below titles fall into that category as well as the category of sometimes you cannot find a theme to link books together in a review other than they don’t allow for longer reviews and they have nothing in common. And that is […]

Mothman's Merry Cryptid Christmas (Cryptid Holiday Classics) by Andrew Shaffer

Mothman's Happy Cryptid Halloween (Cryptid Holiday Classics) by Andrew Shaffer

The Secret Pet (Bad Books for Bad Kids) by Andrew Shaffer

I was reading a few online reader copies the other day. They were all amusing, each in their own way (or not as you’ll see below). They all have a future publication date, except one. And the first is not like the others since there are two authors/creators.  Hope It All Works Out!: A Poorly Drawn Lines Collection by Reza Farazmand is what it is! If you know/like Poorly Drawn Lines the comic, you can get your fix with all of these funny, thoughtful and […]

It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s SUPERBUNS!

Superbuns!: Kindness Is Her Superpower by Diane Kredensor

July 12, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

cbr16bingo  Golden (for the “golden rules”)  Superbuns!: Kindness Is Her Superpower by Diane Kredensor is a cute story about real superheroes. Or more accurately, what makes you, an everyday person, a “superhero” to other people. There are cute illustrations that are fairly simple, but still support the story. This allows you to focus on the text, but are still able to enjoy the art as it is not lacking in fun or details Buns is a bunny who likes helping people in her community. The […]

Dreams can change you

Caterpillar Chryzzle by Andrew Bond

July 10, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Caterpillar Chryzzle by Andrew Bond and illustrated by Julie Völk is cbr16bingo Dreams just because there is a new adventure coming. The Caterpillar of the story is going onto another life and not standing still. They feel the “tingly” or the “chryzzle” of what lays beyond what they have in front of them. Others might laugh, and are content to stay grounded (literally in the character of Worm) but our young hero won’t be stopped. This book shows how we must allow ourselves to grow […]
