“She didn’t want this, she thought. She wanted to stop being afraid.. and she wanted a future that didn’t look exactly like her past. There had to be something they could do. This wasn’t living, it was just giving up while still breathing.” ― Maggie Stiefvater, Call Down the Hawk “Farooq-Lane’s fist smarted as if it had just been smashed against a douchebag’s face, because it had just been smashed against a douchebag’s face.” ― Maggie Stiefvater, Call Down the Hawk Spoilers for The Raven […]

Well, thanks a lot for leaving me with further emotional scars for a whole year, Brian!

4.5 stars This is volume 9, it is NOT the place to start the series. Do, however, get to your nearest retailer of comics/graphic novels and buy volume 1, it’s pretty much the best thing out there right now. You won’t regret it. Normally, the volumes of Saga tend to vary between heavy and emotionally wrenching storylines, followed by something a bit more funny, light-hearted and uplifting. Vol 7 ended on a very sad note, and Vol 8 was an exploration of grief and loss and not […]

Back from the dead, the earl seeks vengeance

March 28, 2018 by Mikki Blu 1 Comment

This book is the latest in the Rules for the Reckless series, though it’s very easy to read as a stand alone.  It is linked somewhat to Ms Duran’s debut book, The Duke of Shadows, which I read last year but completely forgot about for the most part until the end of this one.  So whether that’s good or bad, I’m not sure, take it as you will. This is the tale of Liam Devaliant, Earl of Lockwood, who mysteriously disappeared on his wedding night […]

The Hearts Wants What It Wants

I picked this one up on a whim, thinking the cover was pretty and the story sounded intriguing.  At the time, I didn’t realize it was categorized as New Adult – a genre I have steered away from, or I might have put it back on the shelf.  That said, I found myself sucked into the story fairly rapidly, and I enjoyed the dialogue and the change of pace from historical romance.  This is actually the third book in The Starcrossed Series, but it did […]

Par la souffrance, la vertu – Virtue through suffering

December 30, 2016 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars Spoiler warning! This is a direct continuation of part one of The Belhaven series, How Not to Fall, and while the reader is given enough context to understand what happened in the previous book, it will not make as much sense or have the emotional resonance for the reader unless you have read the first one. Seriously, these books are two halves of a whole story. Also, you will probably get spoilers for the first book in the series in this review. So […]
