A Head Wound Hail Mary

10 Things That Never Happened by Alexis Hall

May 30, 2024 by carmelpie Leave a Comment

We spend a good few minutes wrangling with nachos. To be honest, they’re a good fit for the very unusual occasion of two people who are blatantly into each other having a meal where they have to pretend they aren’t. They’re not so messy it’s embarrassing, they require just enough cooperation that you’ve got to interact, but not so much it gets sexy. ― Alexis Hall, 10 Things That Never Happened “Worst comes to absolute worst, I’ll just arrange to get whacked on the head […]

“She’s you. You’re her.” “Maybe, but she’s still a complete stranger to me.”

Repeat by Kylie Scott

November 8, 2021 by Emmalita 9 Comments

Wicked nuns and maybe-murders in a scenic setting

February 15, 2018 by Bothari43 1 Comment

Picture this: you get a letter from your cousin, who has run off to possibly join a convent in France. She asks you to visit her at the convent, and you have a slight hope that you can talk her out of it, so you hop on a train and dash off to France, running into your former crush on the way. You get to the (gorgeous, isolated, creepy) convent and a mean, aristocratic nun tells you your cousin died last week and is buried […]

A series of lies

October 13, 2017 by Mikki Blu 2 Comments

This is book two in the Rokesby series, set before the infamous Bridgerton bunch series, of which I’ve read all.  However, I’m not as taken with this series as I’d hoped to be.  The first book was okay, and this one had a lot of problematic plot devices.  To begin with, Cecilia Harcourt makes an impetuous journey from England to America to care for her brother Thomas, a soldier in the army.  He’s gone missing, however, but she feels like it would be an easy […]
