She’d been eyeballs-deep in chronic violence since birth.

A Curse of Queens by Amanda Bouchet.

September 20, 2022 by Emmalita 1 Comment

Amanda Bouchet returns to the world of her Kingmaker Chronicles with a new book that focuses on Griffin’s younger sister, Jocasta, and his best friend, Flynn. Now that Cat and Griffin are installed as the Queen and King of a newly united Thalyria, they can no longer go adventuring. So when Cat is given the Elixir of Eternal Life (it’s a bad thing), they must remain at court, pretending everything is fine. Jocasta, an herbalist and healer, thinks she can find Circe’s island prison and […]

In the Middle of the Adventure

Starbreaker by Amanda Bouchet

April 21, 2020 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I received the second book in Amanda Bouchet’s Endeavor series from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I started reading right before the pandemic shut everything down. It took me a month to get through the first two chapters. That’s not the book’s fault, it’s my brain. Once I was actually able to focus on the book, I enjoyed it. Starbreaker is a middle book and does not stand on it’s own, nor is much resolved. Characters evolve and the plot moves forward, but […]

“Never, in the long history of humanity, has tyranny not ended in revolt.”

Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet

February 9, 2020 by Nart 1 Comment

Do you like EPIC science fiction about people fighting fascists? Do you like humour? Do you like romance? Then you will love Nightchaser. End of review. No? There’s a minimum word limit? Okay, okay. Nightchaser is the start of a new series for Bouchet. It focuses on Tess Bailey, nee Contessa Novalight, daughter of the Overseer, the oppressive tyrant of literally the entire galaxy. He reminds me a lot of Putin, in that he upholds a culture of drab uniformity, narrative around peace arising directly […]

One more review before the year ends

Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet

December 31, 2019 by Malin Leave a Comment

3.5 stars Official book description: Tess Bailey: the galaxy’s Most Wanted. Captain Tess Bailey is in deep trouble. She and her crew are on the run, pursued by a tyrant who’ll take them dead or alive. Tess’s best hope is a tall, dark, and much-too-appealing stranger, Shade Ganavan, who says he can help her. But his motivations are far from clear… Shade Ganavan: arrogance, charm…and that special something that makes you want to kick him. With the dreaded Dark Watch closing in, what Tess and […]

A Good Start to an Adventure Romance in Space

Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet

December 29, 2019 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Just today, someone asked me how many space romances there could possibly be. I told them I had read three in the last couple of months and then I remembered I hadn’t finished my review of Nightchaser. Teresaelectro sold me on this one, and she was right, it’s a good read. Captain Tess Bailey starts out in danger, and ends the book in danger, and a whole lot happens in between. Bouchet injects some freshness into the familiar world of humans in space. There is an […]

A space rebel romance

Nightchaser by Amanda Bouchet

June 16, 2019 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

As a big fan of Amanda Bouchet’s Kingmaker Chronicles, I was pumped for her new book Nightchaser. This is the first book in her new sci-fi space series, which centers on Tess Bailey. She is a space captain with a troubled past who has become a sort of Robin Hood in space. She and her crew steal vaccines and supplies to give to children in need. At the start of the book, we find her on the run with a stolen lab. The Dark Watch […]
