Not as Good as Hyperbole and a Half

Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh

November 19, 2025 by esmemoria Leave a Comment

I adored Allie Brosh’s Hyperbole and a Half blog, and especially resonated with her cartoons about depression. I picked up Solutions and Other Problems, her second book, in the hopes it would be just as funny and affecting. While it was both of these things at times, overall the book just wasn’t as strong as her previous work. The book is primarily about funny anecdotes, childhood stories, and wacky takes on things. To be honest, they felt kind of forced and not particularly humorous. They […]

Birthdays and Friendships

Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh

September 22, 2021 by Emmalita 17 Comments

Big birthday greeting to my birthday twin, MsWas, to Katie71483 whose birthday was on Sunday, and to Prolixity Julien whose birthday was some time ago and will happen again in the future. Happy birthday to Allie Brosh. I have no idea when her birthday is, but I’m glad she keeps having them. And happy birthday to you, do something nice for yourself. You can tell me about it in the comments, or any other place you might find me. Last year, Katie71483, MsWas and Prolixity […]

Weird me up, Buttercup

Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh

August 24, 2021 by Caesar's Wife Leave a Comment

Allie Brosh is an internet darling. Her webcomics published on her blog Hyperbole and a Half in the 2000s and her crude drawings never fail to make me chuckle. And her latest published book, Solutions and Other Problems, continues her story where it left off. Brosh is wonderful. But she’s also intensely weird in the way that tells you there is a lot going on for her. She illustrates incredibly hilarious stories that transition to tragedy so quickly you’ll get stuck somewhere between laughing and […]

Candidly deals with… you name it

Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened by Allie Brosh

January 28, 2021 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

I admit, I was a bit of a snob when it came to Allie Brosh and their book Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened. Um…. That cover? It really looked like there was nothing I would relate to. It would be abstract humor that I could not enjoy. However, I was pleasantly surprised. As most people will agree, Brosh created something that is funny and good. I appreciated every part of it, yet still there were […]

“if you can’t win, start playing a different game and score just as many points”

Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh

January 17, 2021 by Tracy Leave a Comment

Allie Brosh is extremely talented, both in her writing and in her at times deceptively simple drawings. I stumbled upon her blog I don’t know how many years ago but never got around to buying her first book (a fact that as of about an hour ago I’ve rectified). Because I haven’t read that and it’s been a while since I’ve looked at her blog, I can’t  compare her two books the way some other cannonballers have. By itself, Solutions and Other Problems is entertaining […]

Our pets’ HEADS are falling off!

Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh

January 3, 2021 by baxlala 22 Comments

In 2013, it looked like Allie Brosh had disappeared off the face of the Earth, or at least the face of the internet. In reality, she was (of course, duh) still around, but she was in the midst of a years-long struggle to grieve and get a handle on her health, both physically and mentally. During all the years she was gone, I did periodically wonder what was going on with her. I know I wasn’t alone. Her blog, Hyperbole & a Half, was wildly […]
