Dresses, balls and suitors, and soul-sucking monsters?

September 17, 2016 by Malin 1 Comment

3.5 stars Lady Helen Wrexhall is 18 and nervous about her imminent presentation to the Queen. As her parents died when Helen was young, and there is scandal attached to her mother (she is believed to have been a traitor), Helen and her brother have been raised by their aunt and uncle. She desperately hopes that no one is going to mention the scandal connected to her mother, but can’t resist the urge to take her mother’s miniature with her to the presentation either, wanting […]

Oh, man. This was agony. It ended really well, but the process of getting there was SO STRESSFUL. Most of the way through this book, I wasn’t sure where it was going, or what the point of it all was, but at the end it all came together, and the reasoning behind all the other stuff that had happened became clear. I know if I went back and re-read this now, I would feel much differently about it. Eon (sometimes subtitled Dragoneye Reborn or Rise […]

I couldn’t put this book down.

I am a huge dum-dum. During the five years I worked for Barnes & Noble, I got to read quite a few books gratis. Like, not only would we get to check out books (and Nooks! with unlimited ebooks!) from the store like it was a frickin’ library, but we also got ARCs and pre-publication copies (the ones that have been copy-edited) of books so we could talk them up to customers. I will admit that I took shameless advantage of all of these privileges, […]
