Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney

Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney

October 28, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

Wow. I can’t say too much without giving away a lot of details, but I really need to stop getting suckered by Alice Feeney’s books. Daisy Darker was just a two star read to me, but this latest is just 3 stars mostly because until the whole book went off the rails, it was pretty freaking good. I just wish that Feeney had tied up a ton of plot holes in this book. I thought the ending was a mess too by the way. I can guess […]

Isle Of Amberly

Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney

“Wait, what just happened?” is the best review I read for this book. I most heartily concur with that statement. Successful author Grady Green’s wife disappeared on a rainy night one year ago. Since then his life has unraveled and he’s been unable to write or sleep. His agent takes pity on him with the opportunity of a lifetime, to stay at a quiet cabin on a remote Scottish island to try to get some writing done. He and his trusty dog Columbo head off […]

Who Makes Important Life Decisions Via a Children’s Game?

Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney

July 31, 2024 by RouletteGirl Leave a Comment

Amelia and Adam are a married couple going on a weekend getaway in an attempt to fix their crumbling relationship. Amelia won a weekend stay at a converted chapel in the Scottish Highlands, and it seems like their best chance to try to fix what has gone wrong in their marriage. But both Amelia and Adam are keeping secrets from one another, and someone else has their own plan for how this weekend will go. Ok, so I was definitely interested in the premise. I […]

“Families are like fingerprints; no two are the same, and they tend to leave their mark.”

Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney

CBR 15 Bing0 – Politics This is my first Alice Feeney and it is a good book for spoooooky season. Feeney does her own spin on an Agatha Christie-style “And Then There Were None” story, in that she sort of cribbed from it entirely in a number of key ways. Britain? Check. Isolated group on an island? Check. Creepy rhymes (in this case, poems)? Check. People starting dying one by one? Check. That said, her take on the construct was refreshing and kept me turning […]

Bored in the House, Bored in the House

Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney

February 11, 2023 by Jake Leave a Comment

A review of another book summed this one up perfectly for me: this is a rebound book. You’re kind of interested but not really. You’re not ready for anything heavy so you pick it in an I-guess-it’s-you kinda way. You have some mildly entertaining dates but you feel like you’re just passing the time. You’re holding its hand while in the relationship waiting room, hoping for something better. This is that book for me. It’s been a rough week professionally and I don’t want to […]

You’ve probably heard of this one already. Woman takes the regional train to and from work every day and watches for a couple who live on a house backing the tracks. She likes to make up stories about what they’re doing every day. One day she sees the wife kissing a man who’s not her husband. Because her previous marriage ended due to infidelity, the main character goes to confront the wife, whom she does not know, but her alcoholism intervenes and she blacks out […]
