I Bought into Amazon’s Author Exploitation Again

Under the Mistletoe: Cruel Winter with You by Ali Hazelwood

Under the Mistletoe: Merry Ever After by Tessa Bailey

Under the Mistletoe: All by My Elf by Olivia Dade

Under the Mistletoe: Merriment and Mayhem by Alexandria Bellefleur

Under the Mistletoe: Only Santas in the Building by Alexis Daria

I mean, I assume it’s exploitive. It is Amazon. Having had some success with the Improbable Meet Cute collection for Valentines  Day, and, as someone who absolutely loves a Christmas novella, I paid for one (the Ali Hazelwood) and borrowed the other four of these Under the Mistletoe “get to know a romance author with a  free read” stories. I imagine Amazon is doing the same thing as telling someone to work for free for the exposure. I hope they were compensated in some way. […]

Jumping on the bandwagon

Bride by Ali Hazelwood

January 2, 2025 by Jen K 3 Comments

This was my first Ali Hazelwood. I had heard her first few novels were basically Kylo-Ren fanfic and had very little interest in that but figured maybe this would be different enough to be a good entry point. Overall, I did enjoy it and think it was a fun read even if I have oh so many nitpicks. Misery was, for the most part, an enjoyable and likable character, and generally smart even while being completely oblivious and clueless about other things. I think the […]

Teenagers, chess, and romance

Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood

December 6, 2024 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I’ve read a number of women-in-science, love stories by Ali Hazelwood, but this is the first young adult, romance I’ve read by her. This one is about chess. Mallory Greenleaf loved chess; in fact, she was obsessed with it. And she was very good at it. Trained by her father, she was working her way up the ranks even as a young teenager. But then she saw her dad kiss another woman. It tore their family apart. Mallory blamed herself and quit playing chess. Mallory’s […]

Isn’t There a White Knight Upon a Fiery Steed?

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

Love Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood

Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood

December 5, 2024 by Mrs. Julien 5 Comments

Alternate Titles: Obtuse Women and the Men Who Love Them Tall, Professional Man Owns His Own Home What Makes Us Vulnerable Makes Us Human This contemporary romance review started with just The Love Hypothesis and morphed into an amalgamated Ali Hazelwood catchall. I didn’t combine them just because it’s quicker, but because I really struggled with conveying my feelings about The Love Hypothesis. Then I had had a bit of breakthrough while re-reading it Love Theoretically and Not in Love for Cannonball Read honesty purposes, then I […]

“You mean because you’re built like the Abominable Snowman and I’m the size of the Sugar Plum Fairy?”

Cruel Winter With You by Ali Hazelwood

Merry Ever After by Tessa Bailey

All By My Elf by Olivia Dade

Merriment and Mayhem by Alexandria Bellefleur

Only Santas in the Building by Alexis Daria

Amazon has put out a holiday collection of five stories that is free to Prime members, and it grabbed my attention when Olivia Dade publicized that she had a story in the collection (Ali Hazelwood, Tessa Bailey, Alexandria Bellefleur, and Alexis Daria are the other authors). I requested an ARC and was granted it, so here we are with me reading a holiday collection earlier than I normally would because we all deserve nice things when the world feels like it is crashing down. Cruel […]

Rue Siebert has never wanted a relationship, she’s finds men to hook up with on dating apps and has a strict rule about one night only.
