Who wants to date a professional athlete?

Blitzed by Alexa Martin

June 19, 2021 by Sophia Leave a Comment

Blitzed (2019) by Alexa Martin is book 3 of 4 in a Denver football romance series that I stumbled upon. I accidentally missed the third book, so Blitzed is the last book of the series that I’m reading. I’ve enjoyed all four of them. I love that they are set in Denver (my hometown) and written by someone who grew up in Denver. Martin knows the area and the neighborhoods so well, and it’s fun to read about them. I also appreciate that Martin bravely broaches some heavier […]

A Colin Kaepernick inspired romance

Snapped by Alexa Martin

December 21, 2020 by Nart 2 Comments

This book is written for a pretty specific audience, and if you’re in that niche, you will almost certainly love this book. Plot: The plot is heavily inspired by  taking on knee during the national anthem. In this novel, the quarterback of the Mustangs begins to take a knee as well, with his protest not only about the general state of things for black people in America but also specifically targeting the Mustangs in not supporting older retired players suffering from severe adverse health complications […]

Enjoyable sports romance.

Fumbled (Playbook, #2) by Alexa Martin

December 16, 2020 by narfna Leave a Comment

I liked this, but it felt a little unbalanced to me in the hero vs. the heroine. It was a fun Saturday afternoon read, but I’m not sure if I will read more from this author, as the next two books in the series have very hit or miss reviews. But this one was fun! Mostly. Poppy is a single mother to ten year old Ace. She and Ace’s father, TK, were high school sweethearts, and now TK is one of the most famous football […]

A football romance with a little reality thrown in

Fumbled by Alexa Martin

May 14, 2020 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I initially found Alexa Martin on NPR’s annual book recommendations. I began with Intercepted, which I enjoyed enough to pick up Martin’s next book, Fumbled (2019). My reaction to Fumbled was very similar to how I felt about Intercepted. I liked that it was set in Denver by someone knowledgeable about Denver. I liked the characters, and the book made me feel some real emotion. On the other hand, I did have a couple of nit picky problems that sometimes distracted me while I was reading. Poppy Patterson is a single […]

Mean football wives

Intercepted by Alexa Martin

June 1, 2019 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I was heading out on another backpacking trip and needed some tent reading that I would find both entertaining and not scary/disturbing. Romances usually do the trick, and I found one from NPR’s Best Books of 2018 List. NPR recommended Intercepted (2018) by Alexa Martin as a fun, sporty romance involving football. Marlee Harper is the long-time girlfriend of star receiver, Chris Alexander of the Denver Mustangs. She’s been with him for about ten years, since high school. But when she catches him cheating on her–again–she dumps him […]
