A Witchy Romance with Yearning and Restorative Justice

Boss Witch by Ann Aguirre

February 8, 2022 by Emmalita 4 Comments

I love this and I hope everyone in the coven gets a book. To recap, in Witch, Please we met Danica and Clementine Waterhouse, cousins who share a home in a small Midwestern town and co-own a repair shop called Fix-It Witches. They are witches, from a family of witches and part of a coven. While Danica is reluctantly falling in love with Titus, her magic is spiking, which attracts the attention of a witch hunter. Clem volunteers to distract and divert the witch hunter. […]

Oh Bluebird, I Wish You had Sung for Me

Bluebird by Ciel Pierlot

February 3, 2022 by Emmalita 3 Comments

I wish I could articulate why Bluebird didn’t quite work for me. I really wanted to like it, and it has a lot of elements I did enjoy. As a whole, though, it took me a long time to get through the book and left me feeling frustrated. The blurb is great. Lesbian gunslinger fights spies in space! Three factions vie for control of the galaxy. Rig, a gunslinging, thieving, rebel with a cause, doesn’t give a damn about them and she hasn’t looked back […]

Soft Queer Love – Ethical Non-Monogamy Edition

Shake Things Up by Skye Kilaen

February 1, 2022 by Emmalita 1 Comment

Twitter may be a hellsite most of the time, but it brought me to so many great writers I wouldn’t have found otherwise. I don’t know how else I would have found Skye Kilaen, an absolutely delightful queer self published author who should be more widely read. Shake Things Up is the second in her Love at Knockdown series and I feel like I’ve been eagerly anticipating it forever, but probably only about a year, what is time? We meet Noelle just after she’s been […]

Travel Back to 2004

Never Tell by Selena Montgomery

January 20, 2022 by Emmalita 4 Comments

One of the moments I enjoyed a lot last year was when I asked a group of people if they knew Stacey Abrams wrote romance novels. They did not. I blew their minds. When I had an opportunity to read an arc of the rerelease of Never Tell, I jumped at it. The book was originally published in 2004. At this point in my life, I’m not really looking for romantic suspense stories. I also don’t read true crime stories involving murder. It’s not a […]

I have reservations

Demon Rising by Victoria Larque

January 13, 2022 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

While scrolling twitter, I saw one of my mutuals interacting with an account raving about Victoria Larque’s Embers Duology, Demon Rising and Angel Falling. I had just seen the two books offered on NetGalley available to read now, so I went back and got them. Fane is a low level demon, an Ember. She sculpts and shapes stone with her hands. She is owned by a more powerful demon, who is pressuring her for sex. She wants to get away from him, but doesn’t see […]

Finally! A Truly Trashy Romance

Match With the Demon by Chace Verity

January 10, 2022 by Emmalita 7 Comments

For years, people have been asking me about the trashy romances I read. Sadly I have had to explain that none of the romances I read are trashy. It’s very confusing for everyone. I’m not sure where they got the idea that romances are about trash. Finally I can hold up and recommend a trashy romance. In Chace Verity’s third cozy Canadian demon romance, Match With the Demon, a recent empty nester dad matches on a dating site with an improbably handsome man, who turns […]
