“I don’t know if we’re in a love story or a story about love…”

What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera

December 8, 2019 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

“I believe in love at first sight. Fate, the universe, all of it. But not how you’re thinking. I don’t mean it in the our souls were split and you’re my other half forever and ever sort of way. I just think you’re meant to meet some people. I think the universe nudges them into your path.” Arthur is staying in New York for the summer while interning at his mom’s law office. While out getting coffee one day, he runs into the boy of […]

Two authors is one too many

What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera

August 21, 2019 by Manimama Leave a Comment

CBR11 Bingo Rainbow Flag square. This is a collaborative book written by two authors who have had individual success in the Young Adult market. Arthur and Ben meet cute at a post office when Arthur follows a cute guy who is trying to mail a package to his ex-boyfriend. They don’t exchange information before they are separated by a flash mob and then spend a third of the story thinking about how to find the other, and if it is even worth the attempt. Arthur […]

Wasted Possibilities Are Frustating

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

March 31, 2019 by CoffeeShopReader 1 Comment

Complaint 1: They Both Die At The End has a misleading title. Several people do die as forecasted but not necessarily the expected ‘they’ at the expected time. More than this would be spoilers. The idea is that in this world, there is a company that calls you on the day you die to tell you that you’ll die that die. They have a script, and then it’s up to you to do what you need/want to do on your last day of life. The […]

Rainbow Rowell may have ruined me, but I’m not mad

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

March 30, 2019 by Dusty Highway Leave a Comment

Last year was really the first time I read any YA books as an adult, aside from the first Harry Potter book my dad bought me for Christmas twenty years ago. Maybe I’ve just had a string of bad luck. Maybe I’m too much of a literary fiction snob (GAC) to get the same kind of enjoyment out of YA. Or maybe Rainbow Rowell, and to a lesser degree, Becky Albertalli, spoiled me for everyone else since their books resonated so deeply with me. I […]

What If It’s Me

What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera

January 4, 2019 by Jenny S 1 Comment

I have to preface this review by saying that I haven’t read anything by either Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera though I did watch (and enjoy) Love, Simon.  The premise of this YA novel is cute as is its origin story.  The two authors didn’t know each other but their debut novels were sold and published at about the same time and they connected and bonded over e-mail and social media.  They decided soon after to collaborate on a novel and this is the result. […]

I mean, I don’t want to bust out the ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ again, but I guess I just did.

I feel like I can’t really even muster up enough energy to review this. It was okay, not bad. I just didn’t really enjoy it all that much. Parts of it were very cute, and then parts of it were just there. I guess I just never really felt Ben and Arthur’s connection, it was just told to me over and over again, amidst a staggering amount of dramadrama, which I do not like. Ben is a NY native who has recently broken up with […]
