We’re talking kings and successions

Warriors: Winds of Change by Erin Hunter

June 28, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Warriors: Winds of Change is an enjoyable graphic novel story. Even though, it can be a standalone title, I probably needed to have a little more background about the Warriors series and their world to understand some of the backstory of where the characters are from. There are several points about their religion, the idea of littermates and the rivalry between clans though might have been cleared up. Yet, the stronger reader could pick up some of that while reading. Erin Hunter’s anthropomorphic cats are […]

Secrets of Camp Whatever V02 The Doors to Nowhere by Chris Grine

May 20, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

In some ways book two of Secrets of Camp Whatever: The Doors to Nowhere is better than book one. Still, there are a few bumps (if it has been a while since you read book one, you might have forgotten a few characters or a story point or two), but overall, Willow and the gang are back for another fun adventure where everything is normal. So, what if there are vampires, elves, gnomes, scary spirit creatures, trolls, and werewolves? Willow has their family and friends, […]

Refrigerators have stories too

Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast V05 The Great Caper Caper by Josh Funk

May 4, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

There is a fifth book in the Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast series. This treat is called The Great Caper Caper. Yes, you read that right, there is a not so pleasant caper in our midst, and they are going to get our Lady and Sir into a sticky situation. Josh Funk adds the humorous text; Brendan Kearney adds the humorous illustrations to the mystery you will read. When the light in the fridge is missing, everyone fears they will be in near darkness […]

When book two makes you get the other series and book one….

The Only Living Girl V02: Beneath the Unseen City by David Gallaher

April 27, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I missed that the book I had in my hand was a book two when I picked up The Only Living Girl V02: Beneath the Unseen City by David Gallaher. However, it was not as difficult to follow as you might think. Of course, the “previously on “The Only Living Girl” recap did assist me in knowing where I was, but it would have been much better to have read first the “The Only Living Boy” series (which seems to introduce not only a few […]

Delilah and Mr. Selim have some adventures

Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant (V01) by Tony Cliff

Delilah Dirk and the King’s Shilling (V02) by Tony Cliff

April 25, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I have wanted to read Delilah Dirk books for some time. A few weeks ago, I went to the library to pick up a book I had on hold and came out with three others. Two were the first two in the series by Tony Cliff, Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant (V01) and Delilah Dirk and the King’s Shilling (V02). I have since learned there is a third book, and I’m contemplating finding a copy. First, this is basically a “Sherlock Holmes meets Indiana […]

Yo’ Ho Hum and a bottle of Root Beer at the bottom of the ocean

The Aquanaut: A Graphic Novel by Dan Santat

January 24, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The Aquanaut: A Graphic Novel is a cute story with a theme about environmentalism, animal conservation and family. The story is when a handful of sea creatures find a surprise at the bottom of the ocean, it leads them on an adventure with a young girl and her uncle. A Sea-World like park is filled with the research and animals found by Sophia’s father (lost at sea several years ago) and her uncle. A handful of critters from the actual ocean, have banded together to […]
