CBR15 Bingo: On the Road

A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers

A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers

September 18, 2023 by Malin 3 Comments

4.5 stars CBR15 Bingo: On the Road On a moon, (that seems quite like Earth in many respects) called Panga, people live peacefully together in harmonious small communities. There are remnants of a previous industrial age, and it’s suggested that there was a near apocalypse way back when, but humanity improved and started thinking about what was better for their environment, possibly helped by the exodus of their robots. At some point, in the distant past, many generations ago, the robots that had been working […]

“Because I know that no matter what, I’m wonderful.”

A Psalm for the Wild-Built (Monk & Robot #1) by Becky Chambers

December 7, 2022 by cheerbrarian 2 Comments

As the year is winding down I find myself in the position of staring aspirationally at my reading goal. I’m not ready to throw in the towel yet, so I am on the hunt for small books that will be a good way to spend my time and get me one step closer to that end. Clocking in at a mere 147 pages this little novella will charm, amaze, and move you. The only reason I wasn’t full-on sobbing at the end (cathartically, not with […]

new aspirational character alert: mad catlady with speedboat and collection of vintage pornography

A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers

August 11, 2022 by andtheIToldYouSos 3 Comments

…and yes, she drives that boat too fast and befriends a robot! What else could I need? Once again, I am utterly in love with the newest Becky Chambers. A Prayer for the Crown-Shy, a much awaited sequel to A Psalm for the Wild-Built, was calling my name from the second that I finished the first entry. I always need to point this out, but if this isn’t the place to do then what is; I would not have found myself in the cozy companionship […]

“We’re all just trying to be comfortable, and well fed, and unafraid.”

A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers

March 12, 2022 by faintingviolet 3 Comments

I cried far more often during this 147-page read than I’m strictly comfortable with, but the wise characters in this book would reassure me that my being comfortable with something isn’t a pre-requisite for it having worth. For the first third of this novella, we are with Sibling Dex getting a feel for them and the world they live in. Dex lives on the moon Panga where centuries before the robots of Panga gained self-awareness, laid down their tools, and recoiled from Factory life. They […]

A Psalm for my Inner Perfectionist

A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers

February 26, 2022 by Emmalita 7 Comments

I discovered to my horror while reading an arc for Monk and Robot #2, A Prayer for the Crown-Shy, that I never finished my review of A Psalm for the the Wild Built. I’m also not surprised, because my love for it overwhelms me into a flailing state of indecipherable babbling and crying. There are some novellas that are like the Tardis, so much bigger than you think they could possibly be. I’ve listened to A Psalm for the Wild-Built three times now, and I […]
