CBR Bingo: Not My Wheelhouse, I Love This and Reader’s Choice

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner

Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

October 23, 2019 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

CBR 11 Bingo- Not My Wheelhouse 99 Percent Mine – Sally Thorne I chose a romance novel, Thorne’s The Hating Game, for last year’s Not My Wheelhouse and while I enjoyed it the romance genre floodgates were not opened for me so I chose another kissing book for the same square this year. Darcy Barrett and her twin brother, Jamie, inherited their grandmother’s tear-down of a cottage which has caused some estrangement between the siblings. Their childhood best friend, Tom, has been hired as the contractor […]

Two Narcissists Show They Don’t Understand Love or Relationships

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

August 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Good grief I don’t know who is worse, Darcy or her twin brother Jamie. How about both? Let’s go with both. These two twins who are in their late 20s still have not got the concept of sharing and that you can’t “own” another person. Darcy is the main character in this one and her first person point of view was aggravating as hell after a while. I think we are supposed to like Darcy’s blunt ways. But honestly she was a jerk and I […]

Basically the Same Response As Everyone Else Had

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

August 22, 2019 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Unfortunately, I am not going to add too much to this review that hasn’t already been said in other reviews on CBR.  The fact that I read in May definitely doesn’t help either because a lot of it has purged itself from my head. I think one thing already that didn’t quite work for me was the narrator choice – the entire novel is first person point of view from Darcy Barrett, and I tend to prefer third person alternating views for romance novels.  I […]

Second time a charm?

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

July 11, 2019 by kella 3 Comments

I, like many many other Cannonballers lived for Thorne’s debut novel, The Hating Game. I’ve re-read it several times, and it will be a permanent favourite. So when Thorne released her follow-up novel, it was a no-brainer for purchase. I had really really high hopes that this would measure up to The Hating Game’s standards, but it just wasn’t the same for me. Darcy Barrett has always held every man in her life to the benchmark set by her childhood friend, Tom Valeska. He’s the […]

Better luck next time

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

2.5 stars. Oooh, I really wanted to like this one so much more than I did. I, like many other Cannonball readers, LOVED The Hating Game a few years ago and had high expectations for 99 Percent Mine. I don’t really regret reading it because it’s at least an interesting flop, it just never gelled for me. Darcy Barrett is a pretty great character. She’s traveled the world gathering oodles of life experience and moonlights as a biker bar bartender to earn extra money aside […]

A pretty good second book; I hope she has an easier time with #3!

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

April 4, 2019 by narfna 2 Comments

This was a bit rough (you can tell she struggled to write it, and Darcy as a character sort of reflects a little of that desperation), but I thought it was charming and entertaining, maybe moreso because of that roughness. Full disclosure, though, I read almost all of this while sitting and waiting to (not) be picked for jury duty, so that may have affected my reading of it. Also, it has now been a month since I’ve read this, I’ve probably forgotten things. I […]
