I’m not crying, you’re crying

March 22, 2017 by The Book Omnivore 4 Comments

Patrick Ness is a stupid dumb-dumb. Who does he think he is, writing beautiful, meaningful, dark fairy tales for kids that work just as well on adults? I hated this stupid book and its stupid story with its stupid, stupid little boy of a main character. I hated how well thought out and tender it was talking about death and feelings and coming to terms with stupid, stupid things like grief. Connor is a thirteen-year old boy living alone with his very sick mother. He’s […]

Tonight, at The Pit, everyone’s identity is revealed

March 21, 2017 by J Leave a Comment

Before I get started, this is the sixth book in a series. (I’m sure you guessed this by the title.) There are going to be some spoilers. Make good choices, dear reader.   Previously in Action Figures: Carrie Hauser is a 16 year old superhero on a team of 16 year old superheroes. The Hero Squad–they know the name is lame, thanks–is apprenticed to local hero team, The Protectorate. Carrie’s friends are Stuart (doubles as tank Superbeast–keep the previous aside in mind, it’ll save us all some […]

So here’s my issue with superhero movies….

March 21, 2017 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

Don’t read this review if you plan to read Because You’ll Never Meet Me. And then don’t bother to read this book. You should still read Because You’ll Never Meet Me — it’s a good book and better to read spoiler-free. But I’d stop right there, because I found the follow up really disappointing. “Together we pass for human, Oliver Paulot. Veins pulsing with lightning.” So we pick up with Moritz and Ollie pretty much right where the last book left off. They’ve discovered the truth about […]

Yer Getting 75% More Plot in the Book than the Movie

March 19, 2017 by Caitlin_D 6 Comments

This is the first Harry Potter book that is a new read for me, although I’ve seen the movie a dozen time, and it’s a much better story. I’m actually retroactively very angry about the movie adaptation! Luckily, there are now several other people embarking on the Harry Potter journey with me so I can, hopefully, commiserate with them since I’m twelve years late to the party. It is going to be very difficult for me to separate the book from the movie so I apologize in advance if you’re not […]

Classic second book syndrome.

March 18, 2017 by narfna 3 Comments

Man, last year when I read the first book in this series, I read it so fast and got so super into it. I was expecting something similar to happen when I picked up book two several weeks ago, but my experience was pretty much the exact opposite. I read the first one in practically one sitting over the course of one day. This one took me weeks to finish, and I had to force myself to pick it up. While reading, I enjoyed myself, but […]

Star-Crossed Lovers for a modern age

March 16, 2017 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

I loved Nicola Yoon’s Everything, Everything (coming soon to a theater near you!). I wasn’t quite as drawn into this one, but still greatly enjoyed it and I feel like Yoon ended it perfectly. “There’s a Japanese phrase that I like: koi no yokan. It doesn’t mean love at first sight. It’s closer to love at second sight. It’s the feeling when you meet someone that you’re going to fall in love with them. Maybe you don’t love them right away, but it’s inevitable that you will.” […]
