True Grit, as fans of the movie will know, follows fourteen year old Mattie Ross as she enlists the services of the rough and tough whiskey addicted Marshall Rooster Cogburn (a man I can relate to! Oh wait, I’m not rough and tough),
The things that divide us are stronger than the things that unite us
This particular series was a gift from my husband for Christmas, a complete surprise. To be honest, I am not sure I would have picked this one up on my own, but I am game for pretty much anything Image Comics is selling. This is a mash up of genres – science fiction, western, dystopian fiction (I am pretty sure dystopian fiction is a genre by now, right?). The lead characters are the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, regenerating every once in a while in […]
Who am I without it? Nobody, that’s who.
I thought this review was going to be an exercise in amusing myself because the Cannonball Read shares a hashtag (#CBR7) with a tobacco free chew company that targets bull riders. I have a lot of books on my Kindle that I picked up because they were free or super cheap and I was poor and super bored. When I noticed who we were sharing a hashtag with, I remembered that I had a series of contemporary western romance erotica novels by Lorelei James on […]
Souls cross ages, like clouds cross skies
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell is an old book, fairly known, I would say, and even put onto the big screen. By now the premise of this book should be familiar to most; six interwoven tales of one person reincarnate spanning the years between 1850’s and a dystopian future. Each tale varies distinctly in style and tone from old journals to crappy mystery novels to sci-fi uprisings. I feel wearied by the mere recounting of six stories in one. Mainly because I don’t feel like […]
An All Lady Creative Team Writing About Kickass Ladies
This book is awesome and beautiful, and I super love it. My full review over on my blog.
Nothing so Wholesome as Life on the Farm.
Wow! I have to give this book 5 stars. Proulx’s writing was amazing and engaging, despite the story being about as bleak as possible. Any romantic notions one might have had about rural Vermont living are pretty much ripped to shreds by this story. It follows multiple characters across 40+ years, watching the lives and farm of the Blood family unfold (or implode, depending upon how you look at it.) The oldest son is forced to leave home under circumstances that are never really explained- […]
