I really liked the first in Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series, The Way of Kings, so of course I went all in and requested the second from the library before I was even finished the first. I almost had regrets – I have a pile of Christmas book exchange books waiting for me, each of them so tempting. But, the book came quickly, I already owe $25 in library fines, and so I got started. At the end of the first book, the stage was […]
“That was, perhaps, the most unfeeling proposal she could imagine. The man was cynical, insensitive, condescending, rude. And she was definitely going to marry him.”
Guys this book? Is so good. That I’m mad that the next book in the series doesn’t come out for months. (MONTHS! August is a lot of months away.) It’s full of trope-y delicious nonsense, and ridiculous people, and stuff you know could never happen in real life, but who cares? Duke, hideously scarred in The War, loses fiancé and proposes a Marriage of Convenience to the Uppity Seamstress who dared ask for the funds he owes her for creating the lost fiancé’s hideous wedding […]
I’m surprised this book exists even having loved it.
Not counting my repurchased copy of Good Omens procured from Goodwill, this may be my favorite book bought for a dollar. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I’m also not confused how it ended up in the dollar bin. This thing may have sprung fully formed from my mind, it’s so weirdly tailored to my interests. The book explores the nature of food related trends – as the tag line says, “why we’re crazy about cupcakes but fed up with fondue” – and the means by […]
Not today Satan!
So this is the second book in the Joe Dillard series. I actually started with book one and moved on to book two! I think I’m getting the hang of reading now 🙂 I really liked the main character (Joe) in book one, so I’m going to keep reading until I don’t. He was a defense lawyer in book one, and he was burning out at the end. Now he’s a prosecutor. His very first case is a Satanic slaughter of a whole family. It’s […]
Clone Club
4.5 stars. Y’all should really read this book. I went into it not knowing much, just something vague about clones and murders, but hearing that it was highly recommended. And hoo-boy did it fucking deliver. This was probably my favorite book of the year so far and I’m going to be foisting it upon people for a while. It’s the future and if you die, it’s okay because you probably have uploaded your consciousness and can just be re-downloaded into a new clone body. Six […]
Stay Out of the Woods!
In reading a few of Ruth Ware’s books, I’ve learned that either I’m a genius or her plot twists can be seen a mile away. In this case, I guessed it when I was reading the synopsis on Amazon. But…hear me out, Ruth Ware’s writing is pretty tight and you’re still drawn in even though you’re going to know what’s going to happen. This wasn’t one of my favorites of hers because I thought that the last 1/3 of the book was blah. The building […]
