Book Exchange Loot!!

December 20, 2018 by FyreHaar 4 Comments

Y’all I got some booooooooks!!! I got a sweet little button and a sticker but I got some books and let me tell you about that sweet little number on the bottom right. I’ve already read it. Hella times, in fact. I fucking love that book. It was my introduction to Lois McMaster Bujold and everyone should read her because she is the literal best. And this book I’ve already read? I love it the best of these. Because I gave up a lot […]

Books I Want to Talk About with my Friend, the Classics Professor

December 18, 2018 by Jenny S Leave a Comment

Thanks to all the Cannonball Read folks who raved about Madeline Miller this year.  Because of the accolades, I read The Song of Achilles back in May and Circe in November and both were books that engaged and transported me.  Thanks to my procrastinating ways, I decided to review both books together and because they’ve been reviewed by a lot of folks already, I thought I’d talk more about my experience reading them and spare you the plot summary. I read Song of Achilles on my […]

Living in Steinbeck’s World

December 18, 2018 by thewheelbarrow Leave a Comment

Save your drafts as you go! I lost a really long double review for these books due to my own negligence.  Ugh….   I moved to Monterey a year and a half ago, the home of Steinbeck and the setting for both of these novels.  Both take place at real locations in the greater Monterey area, though Tortilla Flat is a fictional neighborhood, which added to my interest.  Both novels follow a few main characters who live together and experience the effects of their shenanigans. […]

A lovely surprise from ElCicco!

December 17, 2018 by llp 1 Comment

I am counting down the minutes until I go on Christmas vacation. MINUTES. And tonight I came home to a lovely Cannonball Book Exchange surprise. Two kinds of chocolates (one of which has already been sampled), Orbiter, and An Unkindness of Ghosts. All this, and a lovely card. I am so pleased and cannot wait to settle in and enjoy the generosity of ElCicco. Thank you!

Thank You!

December 17, 2018 by melanir 1 Comment

This was delivered to the wrong door somehow (the address was TOTALLY right- so I’m not sure why they didn’t deliver it properly) but my lovely neighbor, to whom the amazon people wrongly delivered the package, knocked on my door yesterday and handed it over. Weird, but YAY! I got it. Anyway, thank you, I’m super excited to delve into these.
