A Never Let Me Go For the Senior Set

December 23, 2014 by Mrs Smith Reads Leave a Comment

I’ve never been a fan of dystopian YA fiction and I guess the opposite of that would be SA or senior adult fiction with a dystopian twist, which is what The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist would be. The premise of the story caught me a little off guard, but as a Never Let Me Go, senior citizen edition, I was pretty impressed. When Dorrit Weger moves into the Second Reserve Bank Unit as a permanent resident, she has few expectations beyond having a secure place […]

Sci-Fi retelling of the Cinderella tale

December 19, 2014 by anevilweasel Leave a Comment

This is a retelling of the Cinderella tale which takes place in a far future on Earth in a place called “New Beijing”. Cinder is a Cyborg;  a brilliant mechanic who works in the marketplace as the (apparently) sole source of income for her stepmother and sisters.   She was adopted into her family by the father, who had the misfortune (of course) to die immediately afterward of a very fatal plague.  Of course the family falls upon hard times and of course the stepmother and at […]

The Stranger Book Cover

Nonchalantly haunting

December 18, 2014 by AamilTheCamel Leave a Comment

Thirty-ninth book reviewed as part of the 130 Challenge. We are floating through the cold indifference of the Universe with a death sentence dogging us around. Some of us ignore this fact and live life with the expectation that death, though a reality, is an incredibly distant one and we don’t really think much of it. On the other hand, there are those who get too concerned by this fact and spend their lives in mortal fear of being claimed by their end. The  there […]

Huzzah! Books, my favorite!

December 17, 2014 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

First off, I love getting mail. Even better is mail with books inside that I’ve ordered. However, I have to say surprise book gifts take the cake. And my birthday isn’t even here yet 🙂 Thanks Bonnie for sending me my first Terry Pratchett book. And I’ve been wanting that Amy Poehler book ever since I saw her at BookCon. She is simply delightful.   Also hat tip to Katie (faintingviolet) for organizing and your holiday card.

It’s like somehow the Delivery Gods knew that I’d have to spend all day in a building where the floors were being waxed and sent a lovely surprise to cheer me up via teresaelectro!! I am so, so excited to dive into these! I’ve always wanted to check out some of Richelle Meade’s other books, so thank you! This really did make my day/week/month to get these two lovelies in the mail. You rock, teresaelectro! I now have my first couple CBR7 reads and reviews set. […]
