Half Cannonball Completed! What? Yep. Who? Uh-huh!

August 19, 2015 by TylerDFC 7 Comments

Well, this is it! Book number 26. With this one I reached the Half Cannonball and met my goal!! I’d like to thank everyone for believing a small town boy from Indiana could finish such a daunting task! Dreams really do come true, Grams! Thanks of course go to Peanut, Lady Shoes, Dirty Carl, Rosie, Earl, Teresa “Butterscotch” Allen, Baby Shoes, and Mr. Medicine! We did it! And of course I can’t forget, GWAR! It’s been a heck of a ride, guys, I couldn’t have […]

Have you read this yet? READ IT

Finally, after a slew of annoying-ass protagonists, I read The Martian, starring one of the best main characters I’ve read in a long time. I like Mark Watney. Everyone does. Too bad his crewmates left him on Mars! “He’s stuck out there. He thinks he’s totally alone and that we all gave up on him. What kind of effect does that have on a man’s psychology?” He turned back to Venkat. “I wonder what he’s thinking right now.” LOG ENTRY: SOL 61 How come Aquaman can control whales? They’re […]

Hard to track down Captain Marvel/Avengers crossover.

August 18, 2015 by narfna Leave a Comment

Guys, I waited sooooo long to read this. I originally put it on hold at my library SIX MONTHS AGO. It was “on order” for five of those months. I waited so patiently. And then one day I got an email from my library informing me my hold had been canceled, because they couldn’t find a copy of the book to buy for the library’s collection. BOOOOOO. Hisssssss. So I ordered it through interlibrary loan and waited another month. And then it arrived! There was […]

What the hell even is this book.

Like, don’t be fooled by the gorgeous cover and the sassy blurb on the back cover, or even the simplicity and witty intrigue of the prose if you happen to glance at the first page. This book is HELLA CONFUSING. But, like, in a super interesting and entertaining way? That I can’t really explain? This is not a book for the casual sci-fi reader, first of all. If you like heist stories and stories about con men, you will probably have an okay time, but […]

What are they, why are they here, what purpose do they serve ? I summarily review the second volume of Apocalypse Mania. (Read the rest of the review here.)

Best Fantasy-Western-Science Fiction Novel This Year

August 16, 2015 by sabian30 1 Comment

The Earth Lords by Gordon R. Dickson (1989, 311 pages) – When I first started reading this “fantasy” novel (I was fooled by the cover), I was surprised to find myself reading a western set in the late 1800s.  However, the writing was so good and the hero so interesting, I immediately became involved in his adventures.  He’s a half-blood with a Cree mother and a white father, an interesting and well-educated background, and a powerful physique.  I was sucked in even more when his […]
