Saga is my favourite comic book of the last few years and I feel like I do nothing but spend my days waiting for a new trade paperback to come out. I managed to save volume five for an unprecedented nine days from buying it until I actually read it, because I know that it’ll probably be another six months at least until I get more. The writing is flawless, the art is breathtaking. The plot is never, even for a second, predictable. The six […]
I…I have so many mixed feelings about this one
I really wanted to enjoy this book more. There was a lot of hype around it last year with the premier of the show, but when it came down to it, it just wasn’t for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad book. Gabaldon is a good writer. I enjoyed the comparison of the two timelines, and contemplating what aspects of humanity would or wouldn’t have changed in two hundred years. But there were several things I had trouble moving past. Continue […]
Money, Sex, Power: Lazarus #1-19
Lazarus takes place in the near future, where the countries we know have been abolished, and the world is governed by 16 wealthy ruling families. These families live in luxury, and those who serve them receive food and shelter. Everyone else is Waste. Each ruling family has what’s called a Lazarus: a member of the family who has been genetically modified and technologically enhanced to protect the family. Forever Carlyle is her family’s Lazarus. The youngest of her siblings, Forever has been trained since childhood […]
Good story, terrible audio production
Orson Scott Card’s Shadow of the Hegemon continues the Bean-focused storyline from Ender’s Shadow, with a good focus on Peter Wiggin and Petra Arkanian as well. We have Achilles back as the bad guy, and Card does a much better job of fleshing him out this time around. “What a laugh, though. To think that one human being could ever really know another. You could get used to each other, get so habituated that you could speak their words right along with them, but you never know why other […]
If Dead Zombie Presidents Don’t Tickle Your Fancy Then You Might be Dead Inside
I don’t even know where to begin with this book. It’s got zombie presidents, people. Zombie Taft, Zombie Washington, Zombie Roosevelts, you get the picture. There’s also the ghost of Ben Franklin, being a creepy perv ghost that we all knew he’d be too. Also, chimichangas! So due to the poor PR of Captain America decapitating a dead zombie president, SHIELD has to call in some less than stellar hero to take care of the walking dead presidents. Enter Deadpool, the merc with a mouth, […]
The third installment of the Saga quest was, different, shall we say from the previous two. It’s the middle-child of the group, I guess you could say. Continuing the story of Alana and Marko and their quest to keep their daughter, Hazel safe from the clutches of their warring governments, Volume 3 pauses the forward momentum of the plot and take sometime to give background to many of the characters that we have been introduced to in Volumes 1, 2. The Brand is still trying […]
