If you thought Saga was a dark and heartbreaking comic before, you may just want to stop at Volume 4. Usually, after finishing a volume of Saga, I like to leaf through the pages again and relive my favorite scenes. This one left me needing a hug and kitten gifs. So, obligatory spoiler warning. Seriously, there will be spoilers. So don’t complain if something gets spoiled here. You would think, after the cliffhanger in the last volume, that the eventual reuniting of Marko and Alana […]
not as good as i remembered sadface
This book is still much, much, much better than a lot of the Star Wars novels I’ve read, but it’s not as good as I remember it being. Granted, my standards weren’t suuuuuper high in 2004. I was young, and very, very distracted by the whole THING of being a freshman in college. Plus, all I realllllly cared about was Luke/Mara Jade and kissing and such, and that is definitely something that this series is focused on (although most of it occurs in the second […]
Epically epic epicness and more words that also mean epic.
Turns out I didn’t wait long enough to start this series. I have fast run out of Saga and that is a tragedy. When is the next book? Siiiiigh. (Reminder to self for next time starting a Brian K. Vaughan series: the “long enough” time to wait to start a series of his is “when it’s already finished”.) Slight spoilers to follow. More than any other book in this series so far, I feel like Volume 5 really hit home for me why this series […]
The depressing one.
Oh, this one was painful, and not necessarily in that IT HURTS SO GOOD way (except for that last panel). Some of it was just downright unpleasant to read. I suppose not everything can be kittens and puppies and lovefests all the time. People get depressed, they drift apart, things suck sometimes. Saga, Volume 4 is one of those times. This volume takes place over a couple of years as Marko and Alana & Co. are parked on one planet while Alana makes money for […]
The opposite of war.
In Saga: Volume 3, everybody’s heading for the planet Quietus. If you’re wondering why that should be worrisome, google “Quietus” and see what comes up. Yeah. It’s that kind of story. Some stuff this book is concerned with: How to make a life for your family while on the run from two governments. Finding love after a loss. Relatedly, getting over a break-up in rather extreme ways. Violence only begetting more violence. The real threat of Marko and Alana is not that they betrayed their […]
Marko <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3
This is a love story. This is a story about fathers and sons. This is a story about families. This is a story about war and peace. This is a story about tree spaceships and magic aliens and talking cats. Volume 1 of Saga introduced us to all the characters: Marko and Alana and their newborn child, who are being hunted as traitors and miscegenators across the universe by both sides of a never-ending galactic war; killer for hire The Will and his truth-telling cat; […]
