Rachel goes grizzly.

Enter The Ellimist, an all-powerful SPOILERS or is he END SPOILERS being who can bend space and time to his will, and who has taken an interest in the planet Earth. Andalites tell their children fairy stories about his kind; humans have never heard of him. He’s up to something. Gosh, Rachel books are just the best. I alllmost upped this one to five stars, but I’m saving it. But allllmosst, because in The Stranger, I really feel like this series kicks into gear, and […]

After I read Doomsday Book a couple of years ago, a bunch of people told me that this one was much lighter in tone, and funny, but I didn’t realize it would be an almost straight up farce at points. To Say Nothing of the Dog takes place two years after the events of Doomsday Book, but either book can be read on its own without regard for the other. Oxford historian Mr. Dunworthy is the only character of any note who plays a role […]

Wow, I was expecting so much more from this. It’s nominated for a bunch of awards, and won the Nebula, and I’ve heard Okorafor is a great writer, but this was not a good example of any of those things for me. I don’t know, maybe it’s a combination of her style, the format she chose to write the story in, and the story itself, but the result for me was rushed, simplistic and unsatisfying. And even more so because this story, executed differently, is […]

Part faux-autobiography, part non-fiction history of ghost hunting, Ghosts from Our Past is a lot of fun. Continue HERE!

Hazel’s all growed up.

So I actually read this the day it came out. Physically got in my car, drove to Barnes & Noble, and paid for a hard copy with my own money. I don’t do that often anymore, not when my library so thoughtfully contains most comics and books that I would like to read, even if it means I have to wait in line for them. But I just can’t wait for this series, and I must own it. I LOVE this series. LOVE IT LOVE […]

Can I have the next one now, please?

August 19, 2016 by Malin Leave a Comment

July brought another volume of Saga and there was great rejoicing in the Patterson household (well, at least from me, the husband is still a few books behind. I honestly have no idea where his priorities are). The action has jumped ahead a few years since we last saw our band of plucky protagonists, and Hazel is now living with her grandmother in a detention centre on Landfall, and she’s going to kindergarten and making friends her own age for the first time. She’s becoming […]
