I wasn’t entirely certain whether or not I liked this book as I was reading it, until I got to the end and realized I really wanted to read the sequel. So I guess that’s a fairly positive recommendation. My main issue was with the style in which is was told. “Generally speaking, people tend not to question what they’ve been told was true. Scientists are no different; they’ve just been told a lot more things.” 17 years ago, Rose Franklin falls into a hole […]
Where there is milk, there is hope
While Mum is away on business, it’s up to Dad to make sure that his son and daughter have everything they need. Like milk for their cereal. Dad goes to the shops, but is gone for really rather a long time. When he returns, he explains to his children why he was gone for so long. It’s a story of adventure, danger, space aliens, time travel, vampires, angry South American gods, pirates and the amazing Professor Steg. The entire thing is beautifully illustrated by Chris […]
Time Travel and DINOSAURS
I am in a reading slump. I feel like I hit my double cannonball and then a wall. I keep starting books and putting them down after about a chapter or two. And the few that I have finished are ones I haven’t really wanted to write a review for. However, this was a gift from Lauri for the Cannonball Book Exchange and I would feel like a heel if I didn’t write a review saying just how much I liked this book. And I […]
Disappointment in space
Sigh. I have been on a hunt for lady sci-fi writers. There’s Lois McMaster Bujold, of course, but I’ve already read (and reread, and rerereread) all of hers. Mostly, the women are in the fantasy section, and I wanted space! So I had high hopes for this one, and they were dashed – dashed, I tell you! There’s a decades-long war going on with some aliens, and an internal coup going on in the military between factions who think the head dude is doing it […]
Round 2 of me reading book 2
Ok, here goes round 2 of me reading book 2. I did finish it this time! It wasn’t that long, so I’m not sure what exciting thing was happening in my life 5 years ago that I couldn’t finish it. I guess I just wasn’t reading books to raise money for cancer back then. Silly me! So again, there are some editing mistakes, and the writing is a little clunky. I looked this book up on Goodreads, and man do people have things to say […]
Fun, Quick, Cheap Indie Sci-Fi! With space robots!
You never know what you’re getting into when you read self-published sci-fi. Sometimes the books are gems. Sometimes they are more like shiny, fresh turds. However, I love supporting writers willing to put themselves out there, so I proudly shelled out 2.99 to pick up Mikel Evans’ The Wolf Itself. (If you have kindeunlimited you can read it for free via that service as well, but shell out some cash for CBR and Evans!) TWI is the first book in a series, but it stands by itself […]
