Anyway, here’s Wonderwall

The Gate of the Feral Gods by Matt Dinniman

The Butcher's Masquerade by Matt Dinniman

The Eye of the Bedlam Bride by Matt Dinniman

January 5, 2025 by NatalieH 5 Comments

After reading the first three books in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series by Matt Dinniman while traveling between Christmas and New Years, I was excited to continue with the series. In the short time since, I’ve flown through the next three books: The Gate of the Feral Gods, The Butcher’s Masquerade, and The Eye of the Bedlam Bride. These books continue the story of Carl and Princess Donut, his ex-girlfriend’s cat, as they compete in the galactic gameshow, Dungeon Crawler World after the collapse of […]

A German shepherd mix curled up in a chair with the book, "Carl's Doomsday Device" by Matt Dinniman resting on the dog's hindquarters.

Silly gags abound but questions are building faster than goblins on meth

Carl's Doomsday Scenario by Matt Dinniman

January 5, 2025 by Dome'Loki Leave a Comment

You know how sometimes the next book in the series isn’t as good as the one before it? Carl’s Doomsday Device does not fit in that category.  It continues to be uproariously fun ala Carl having to remove all magic items and running around naked because even his boxers are magic.  However, the questions continue to build.  Why are some NPCs aware and others not?  How mentally stable are the previous crawlers that become NPCs? What is going on in the broader universe that is impacting […]

Two siblings and their adventure

Afar by Leila del Duca, Kit Seaton and Taneka Stotts

January 3, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I realized I had read Afar by Leila del Duca, Kit Seaton and Taneka Stotts a few pages in. However, when I went to put the book in my counting site, I lost my notes/rating/etc. From before for it. Therefore, I am not sure what my original thoughts were. I do remember enjoying it, but obviously not enough to remember I had read it before. Then, I only remembered a few parts making it more of a first time read and anything that was familiar […]

I’ve been a Hawk Tuah long!

The Encounter by K. A. Applegate

January 3, 2025 by cosbrarian 3 Comments

TW: Attempted Suicide (briefly mentioned in this review, a fleshed out scene in the book) Animorphs can collect the DNA of any animal they touch and bond with, filing it away for the perfect opportunity to transform into an elephant, a tiger, a flea. But you cannot stay in your animal form for over two hours, or you will be stuck in that form permanently. Tobias learned this the hard way. He used to be a middle schooler, a little nerdy, an outcast among his […]

Pleasant but forgettable

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor

January 3, 2025 by NatalieH Leave a Comment

So, I own far too many books that I haven’t yet read. One of my goals this year is to greatly reduce that number, and I’ve somehow convinced myself that the best way to do so is to start with the shortest books first (there’s probably a flaw in my logic somewhere, but I’m going to ignore it for the time being). Coming in at 90 pages, the shortest unread book that I currently own is Binti, by Nnedi Okorafor. It won the Hugo and […]

Are you not entertained?

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman

Carl's Doomsday Scenario by Matt Dinniman

The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook by Matt Dinniman

January 3, 2025 by NatalieH 4 Comments

I was travelling visiting family over the holidays and found that I didn’t bring enough physical books to occupy myself with while away from home. I ended up searching through my Kindle for something new to read, and quickly devoured the first three books in Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl series, consisting of Dungeon Crawler Carl, Carl’s Doomsday Scenario, and The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook. The plot is sort of a mix of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and The Hunger Games. One evening in […]
