Musings on Live, Love, and Politics from the Sexpert

June 17, 2014 by Sophia 1 Comment

I jumped immediately from What Do Women Want? by Daniel Bergner to American Savage (2013) by Dan Savage. I took it as a sign that Savage’s recommended reading in his introduction included What Do Women Want? I felt very prepared. Dan Savage is someone that I’ve heard of but didn’t really know much about. My friend had told me about his sex podcast, and I’d heard about his books. I’d definitely heard of the “It Gets Better” program, too, but I can’t say for sure […]

Passions of a Wicked Earl by Lorraine Heath

June 17, 2014 by Mrs. Julien 12 Comments

It sets a certain tone when a historical romance opens with the hero going at it with his mistress. The series is called “London’s Greatest Lovers”, after all. Like the heroes of the other two books in the trilogy, Pleasures of a Notorious Gentleman and Waking Up with the Duke, as well as a couple of other Lorraine Heath heroes, the gentleman in question has an enchanted phallus and hard-earned prowess in slipping it to women. The kind of mad skillz that render the heroine’s […]

Eve Dallas hunts possible vampires and serial killers

June 15, 2014 by Malin Leave a Comment

Eternity in Death – 3 stars Creation in Death – 4.5 stars Creation in Death is book 25 in the In Death series (and the novella precedes it, counting as 24.5) and this is possibly not the place you want to start, as a whole load of character development comes before. However, as the books are a bit like episodes in a crime procedural show, picking up with this one would be like watching a random episode of a show a few seasons in. I don’t think there’s any major […]

An Unbelievable Bore

June 10, 2014 by Orleanas Leave a Comment

It seems as if every wanna be romance writer makes Amazon their dumping ground. Desperate to find some new authors to diversify my limited favorite authors’ selections, I stumbled upon Terri Osburn’s Home to Stay (2014), a bland, forgettable romance that emphasizes why I hate small town romance series. Home to Stay is the story of Willow Parsons and Randy Navarro, residents of Anchor Island. Willow, living on the island for only a year, works as a bartender and harbors a secret that keeps her emotionally distant and secretive […]

Affairs by Moonlight Trilogy

June 9, 2014 by Rachie3879 Leave a Comment

I discovered Juliana Gray’s Affairs by Moonlight trilogy much like I have any other romance series – on Cannonball, after reading Mrs Julien’s reviews. I probably won’t have much to say that she hasn’t added herself but here goes. Since the books go together I’ll just review them all together here. A Lady Never Lies tells the story of Lady Alexandra Morley, a recently-widowed young woman with a lot less financial stability than people think, and Phineas Burke (aka Finn), a genius bastard (literally, his […]

Elegance by Kathleen Tessaro

June 6, 2014 by badkittyuno 1 Comment

Another impulse purchased that panned out! Elegance is two books in one. Our main character Louise picks up a 1940s dictionary called (duh) Elegance (an impulse buy for her as well) and it ends up changing her life. This dictionary has A to Z chapters about various woman-related subjects, from sweater seats to make up to proper ettiquette. While rather dated and occasionally ridiculous (such as, the entire chapter on furs), Elegance the dictionary guides Louise into realizing how unhappy she is in her marriage (to a cold, possibly […]
