Silver Shadows: More Vampires!

September 4, 2014 by ModernLove Leave a Comment

Back in March I reviewed The Fiery Heart, part of Meade’s Bloodlines series. The next book just came out, perfectly timed to me spending a week on the beach. Where better to read about vampires who can’t stand the sun than while sitting in it? This book picks up a few weeks after the last one left off. Sydney has been taken away to be reeducated after her love affair with vampire Adrian had been discovered. Adrian was losing himself in a haze of booze, […]

Another Contemporary Romance, But with a Violation of the Client/Therapist Relationship

September 3, 2014 by Mrs. Julien 5 Comments

Sisters in Love is a facile and trite contemporary romance laden with clichés and complex problems simplistically resolved. A large part of my reaction was, “Maybe I could write a whole book. Melissa Foster did. It’s not like I have to write a good book. Melissa Foster didn’t.” It’s very freeing when one thinks of it that way. The rest of my reaction was to be grateful Sisters in Love was free and to be very pleased when I finished reading it – which I […]

Polysyllabic words as foreplay

September 2, 2014 by alwaysanswerb 5 Comments

A Week to be Wicked had top-notch humor and steam, both plentiful even early on, so it definitely earned my approval and recommendation. Summary from Goodreads: “Minerva Highwood, one of Spindle Cove’s confirmed spinsters, needs to be in Scotland. Colin Sandhurst, Lord Payne, a rake of the first order, needs to be…anywhere but Spindle Cove. These unlikely partners have one week to • fake an elopement • convince family and friends they’re in “love” • outrun armed robbers • survive their worst nightmares • travel […]

Another Contemporary Romance, But With “I Am Jack’s Raging Bile Duct”

September 2, 2014 by Mrs. Julien 2 Comments

Wallbanger by Alice Clayton is a fluffy, reasonably entertaining, and quick contemporary romance. It is the first book in her Cocktail series about twenty-something professionals building careers and finding life partners. The book had very little conflict and read like a romantic sitcom: she is an interior designer and he is a nature photographer; they each have two friends that are perfect for their counterpart’s two friends; they have no money concerns despite living in notoriously expensive San Francisco. Caroline has a noisy neighbour. The […]

Two New(ish) Nora Roberts

September 2, 2014 by NTE 4 Comments

I will admit to being a pretty big fan of the author Nora Roberts. And by “pretty big fan,” you can take that to mean that I may have joined her bulletin boards back in the day, and I may be able to quote scenes from some of my favorite books, and there may be an awful lot of ‘R’ related shelves in my library. At one point – back when said board, ADWOFF, was in full swing, I probably didn’t go a day or […]

A Book I Couldn’t Wait to Review (So I Didn’t)

August 30, 2014 by faintingviolet 6 Comments

I’m writing this review without actually finishing the book. I know, it’s unorthodox, but stick with me here. Thanks to the lovely reviews of Courtney Milan’s Brothers Sinister series I have decided to make these books my summer/fall romance reads. Based solely on the reviews I purchased all of the available books and novellas for my Nook and have been sliding these books in amongst my other reading. The Duchess War is the first full novel, second story, in the series and I am in […]
