A Love triangle tale of neurotic mind vigilantes

November 29, 2014 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Justine suffers from near-incapacitating hypochondriac whose mother died from a rare disease everyone refused to believe she had. Damn good reason to have health anxieties, I say. She struggles through each day as if it’s her last in case that elusive vein will explode in her brain. But living on edge is almost too much for her hunky, yet simple-minded boyfriend, Cubby. That is until she meets Packard, a mysterious Turkish restaurant owner, who says he can save her hypochondriac self-implosion. Justine (and myself!) is skeptical to say the […]

No Change Please, we’re British

November 28, 2014 by reginadelmar Leave a Comment

Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand is very British, in a good way.  Major Pettigrew, an elderly widower, lives in Edgecombe St. Mary.  It’s a small town full of small minded people. Tradition is cherished; outsiders are shunned.  Pettigrew is a retired military man, values king and country, good manners and British traditions. He treasures two military rifles passed down from his father who had been in the colonial army, one of which he owns, the other is held by his brother. He golfs. Widows and spinsters […]

When in Rome…

November 28, 2014 by Orleanas Leave a Comment

Rabid fandom is one reason I’ve yet to watch Titanic and never got into Friends, Lost, among many other highly successful films and TV shows. Instead, I tend to dedicate my viewing time to the underdogs, which is to say that a lot of the shows that I do like tend to get cancelled, i.e. Arrested Development, Life, Chicago Code, Human Target, Men of a Certain Age. To date, The Good Wife is the only one of my faves to have escaped that fate.  With that said, you can imagine how resistant […]

Are you more heroic if you sacrifice yourself for people who shun and fear you?

November 24, 2014 by Malin 1 Comment

Disclaimer! This was granted to me by Open Road Integrated Media through NetGalley in return for a fair and unbiased review. Aerin is the lonely, ostracized daughter of the ruler of Damar. She has pale skin and fiery red hair amongst a people who are bronzed with dark hair. She cannot even remember who first told her the story, but she has known for as long as she can remember that her mother was a commoner witch-woman who came from the North, who ensorcelled the […]

What if you could turn your worst weaknesses into a weapon and fight crime with it?

November 22, 2014 by Malin Leave a Comment

Once again, I’m going to make things easier for myself, by using a blurb: Justine knows she’s going to die. Any second now. Justine Jones has a secret. A hardcore hypochondriac, she’s convinced a blood vessel is about to burst in her brain. Then, out of the blue, a startlingly handsome man named Packard peers into Justine’s soul and invites her to join his private crime-fighting team. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime. With a little of Packard’s hands-on training, Justine can weaponize her neurosis, turning it outward […]

One day Ilona Andrews will publish a book that disappoints me and that will be a terrible day

November 21, 2014 by Malin 2 Comments

4.5 stars In a world where magic exists and is passed down through generations, the most influential families in society are called Houses, and tend to breed selectively to create the most powerful magic users, known as Primes. Nevada Baylor is a struggling P.I in Houston, trying to make ends meet. Nevada’s powers (which she keeps secret to avoid being exploited by one of the ruthless Houses) allow her to sense any time someone is lying. It comes in handy in her line of business, […]
