A House for the Season Book 2

January 12, 2015 by Walking Widdershins 2 Comments

I grabbed the first three of this series all at once – they’re pretty cheap, at least for Kindle. I’ll be picking up the next few very soon – I have no idea how many there are. Guess I should find out so I don’t read the last one without realizing it’s the last one. It’s like eating the last cookie without realizing it, then reaching in the bag for the next one and there’s nothing there. So disappointing. Anyway, poor Jane has always been […]

Sweet though it may be, it didn’t sing.

Courtney Milan has admirably taken up the mantle not just for plucky, smart heroines, but for explicitly academic ones. Complex theory as foreplay and technical jargon as sweet nothings are part of her repertoire. It’s these details, as well as Milan’s own formidable educational achievements, that have me recommending her as gateway romance for women who think themselves above romance. (Former member of that camp here.) In addition to her superlative characterization, she also rarely stumbles on the actual romance, and when she does, often […]

A House for the Season Book 1

January 11, 2015 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

Last Cannonball, I read and reviewed the “Poor Relations” series by Beaton, and found that I enjoyed her style. The books are quick and entertaining reads. They all seem to follow a similar formula, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Beaton found what worked for her and stuck with it. This series, “A House for the Season,” takes place around the same time and in the same-ish neighborhood as the Poor Relations. The main characters are the below-stairs gang at a house in Mayfair […]

An insight into Jordan.. No, not the place..

January 11, 2015 by BookNinja Leave a Comment

Sometimes I go through a period of reading kinda trashy books, and I thought Angel was going to be one of them. Angel is a young girl who gets discovered as a glamour model at the age of 17, and the story of her fairly meteoric rise to fame and love life. Angel goes from having vague desires to go into fashion design to being incredibly famous, going out with a member of a boy band and tabloids and gossip magazines watching her every move. Katie Price (aka […]

Afterworlds; If Schrödinger ever wrote a book

January 10, 2015 by tillie 1 Comment

“It’s about death!” Teen paranormal romances are all the rage, so when Darcy Patel writes one during the month of November, she lands a huge book deal and moves to New York City with all her money. The readers strap in for the ride; of large apartments with the perfect view of China Town, shopping and eating out and drinking with little to no consequence. In every other chapter we get to read the novel that Darcy is writing as well; called Afterworlds. Darcy’s book […]

I really really wanted to love this

January 9, 2015 by BookNinja 6 Comments

This is going to be a very spoilery review – warning in advance! Kate is an incredibly work-driven but lonely woman with a slight daddy complex – she’s very conscious of his opinion. She decides to go to a golf course/resort where rich, tall Yuppies hang out, to meet her ideal guy and get married. While there, she meets Jake – who used to fit all her requirements, but has since retired from being a high-powered tax attorney, invested all his money in his brother’s […]
