The Italian police are just the worst.

March 6, 2015 by Mrs Smith Reads Leave a Comment

I picked up The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston and Mario Spezi several times at my local used book store and the library before I actually bought it. The cover, which depicts a Renaissance sculpture, suggests that the “True Story” takes place at that time. In reality, the Monster of Florence murders occurred between 1968 and 1985, and were never solved. The scandalous killings of 16 people, each involved couples, murdered at local trysting spots amongst the hillsides around the city of Florence. Both […]

a nasty shrink-wrapped surprise

The 12th in the Aimee Leduc series, which I am binge-reading, and I think I finally made a breakthrough. By number eleven I was seriously bonking and questioning my sanity in trying this. Thankfully this one, set in the oldest and smallest Chinatown in Paris, put me back on the road to being happy to spend these hours with Aimee. Though, seriously, quit wearing vintage couture and spike-heeled Louboutins while on the case! Rene has a new girlfriend, Meizi, that he met at the dojo. One […]

Not the Only Thing Dead in Deadwood

March 4, 2015 by Melina Leave a Comment

An Ex to Grind in Deadwood is the 5th book in the Deadwood series by Ann Charles. If you’re a fan of the great (gone before its time) TV series Deadwood, don’t bother even consider reading these books, they have nothing but location in common. I fell into this book series because the first two were free and the rest have been cheap…but now? I think I’m done, and let me tell you why. Typically, I am a sucker for light, breezy book series. […]

Princesses and Basque terrorists and murder, oh my

March 3, 2015 by janniethestrange Leave a Comment

Number eleven. A little emphasis on “numb”. In this installment, Aimee is doing a favor for her godfather, Morbier. He has been called away to Lyon and can’t get ahold of his girlfriend, the beautiful and mysterious Xavierre. He entreats her to go to her home where s he is hosting a wedding rehearsal party for her daughter, Irati. Aimee reluctantly agrees (Morbier’s favors always come with a price) and as the affair is way out in the exclusive area of Passy, Rene offers to drive […]
