Hope everybody is enjoying their summer reading. I have been reading a ton this summer. Here are a few of my recent favorite reads: Limelight by Amy Poeppel – a funny, very NYC story about a mom who ends up as a personal assistant to a bratty teen idol who is making his Broadway debut. Mona Acts Out by Mischa Berlinski – another comedic NYC story, this one about an aging Shakespearean actress. Julie Chan Is Dead by Liann Zhang – this book was crazy, especially, […]
Amanda Howard (Bothari43) June 18, 1978 – June 3, 2025
Amanda Howard, known as Bothari43 in Cannonball Read, died from ALS on June 3, 2025. She was 46 years old. Amanda participated in Cannonball Read since we began this website in 2014. Her reviews were hilarious and thoughtful and filled with photos of her beloved cats. She most often reviewed science fiction. Amanda also began our Quick Questions with a Cannonballer series of interviews, which katie71483 is now continuing. They’re hilarious and well worth the read. In 2022 she became the Secretary of the Cannonball […]
Quick Questions with Tracy: Getting back in the saddle
Hi, Tracy! Thank you so much for agreeing to participate in Quick Questions with a Cannonballer. You’ve been a member of the Cannonball Read community for several years. Would you mind sharing a little bit about yourself and how you found us? Ok, a little about me: I grew up in Maryland and I was one of those horse crazy girls. I took riding lessons and read all the horse books I could get my hands on. After grad school (for clinical psychology), I moved […]
CBR Diversion: People Who Read People Are the Luckiest People in the World!
This diversion we will discuss books about real people: biographies, memoirs, and historical fiction. I read about people mostly through historical fiction. I adore all the books written by Fiona Davis, Lynda Cohen Loigman, and Kate Quinn. After I proclaim for the umpteenth time, I am so done with WWII, I stumble upon a masterpiece like Under the Same Stars by Libba Bray. I will gobble up the occasional juicy memoir or biography. Who could resist Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris (which must be […]
A 5X Donation to the American Cancer Society!
I’m pleased to announce that we’ve made our first donation of the year to the American Cancer Society of $500. That brings Cannonball Read’s total donations to $13,450! Even better, thanks to a very generous matching donation, that donation was matched 5X, and our $500 grew to $3,000! Cannonball Read joined in to celebrate 112 years of progress and hope in the fight against cancer. Many thanks to all of our recent supporters. You too can help us kick cancer’s butt by making a donation […]
