Melmoth

Melmoth by Sarah Perry

October 1, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

So this was a 3.5 star read that I rounded up to 4 stars. I didn’t care for the Essex Serpent at all and worried I wouldn’t like this book, but I thought Perry did a good job with this. She took her own spin on Melmoth the Wanderer Novel by Charles Maturin. Just like with that book, Perry pushes the Gothic elements all the while telling several stories within the main story. I thought the writing for the most part was spot-on. I loved […]

Doesn’t it suck when you’re dead?

Undeaded by Eliott Ventadour

September 30, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The publisher description of  Undeaded by Eliott Ventadour says it all: After being declared clinically dead, traveling salesman Ed Zamsa tries to go on with his life regardless of his strange condition. As if things weren’t hard enough without being dead. Therefore, all I will say this book is WARPED and it is BIZARRE, and it is NOT safe for work. It has language, sex, murder, and mayhem. There is an offbeat sense of humor not everyone will appreciate or get. Even if some of […]

Cursed Princess Club Volume One by Lambcat

Cursed Princess Club Volume Two by Lambcat

September 30, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Cursed Princess Club Volume One created by Lambcat is a WebToons special. In January 2023 volumes one and two (the summer of 2023) will be (hopefully) published in a physical format (as long as there are no broken-down trucks, snowstorms, printing issues, or acts of the Great Spaghetti Monster). When the King of the Pastel Kingdom wakes his children in the morning, one is sleeping in the flowers that grows wherever she is, one has birds and critters brushing her hair, one is delighting and sparkling […]

Blame It on the Pumpkin

Blame it On the Pumpkin by Tara Moeller

September 28, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Ahh, a very nice Halloween anthology series. I really enjoyed the stories for the most part, there were just two stories that did not work for me. I am realizing now after reading other’s reviews that some of the stories were not everyone’s cup of tea. Probably because most of the readers wanted more horror and not gallows humor that seemed to run through some of the stories. […]

Firestarter

Firestarter by Stephen King

September 26, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Weird, I don’t remember this book being so long when I read it as a kid. But this one is fairly long. I was happy to read about Charlie and her father trying to get away from the scientists who want to lock them up and study them. I always found this book to be a bit reminiscent of Dean Koontz in parts since King really doesn’t do the whole evil scientist thing much in his books. But this still works years later. I always […]

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King

September 26, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

It’s weird. Every time I go home to visit (I am from PA) I end up reading a lot of Stephen King books. I read this one when it first came out, but realized I never posted a review of it. This weekend was dark and rainy and cloudy and it was a perfect setting to read about Trisha and her adventures lost in the woods on the Appalachian Trail. I always wonder what happened next with Trisha and her family. I can guess, but […]
