Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs

Caught up on Mercy Thompson

Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs

Soul Taken by Patricia Briggs

December 31, 2023 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

I’m terrible at staying current in a series, but I’m all caught up on the main Mercy Thompson series. After a book binge last summer for CBR14, I only had two to read. SPOILERS AHEAD AS THIS IS A LONG-RUNNING SERIES Smoke Bitten is twelfth in the series and picks up after the devastating ending of Storm Cursed where they had to kill a nasty nest of local witches. Alpha werewolf Adam is emotionally haunted after killing Elizaveta, their former friend and witch advisor. Coyote shifter […]

Graveyard Queen Series – My Kindle Says I Read These

The Restorer by Amanda Stevens

The Kingdom by Amanda Stevens

The Prophet by Amanda Stevens

December 31, 2023 by thegirlwhogotoverit 3 Comments

I don’t know what it is about these books. I love the idea of them.  Amelia Gray is a Graveyard Restorer.  She is commissioned by individuals or towns or organisations to clean, clear and restore old graveyards to their former glory. This can involve a lot of research, making sure that nothing is damaged or moved too far from its original positioning, and that the gravestones are all documented and assigned to their correct occupants. So far, sounds interesting, right? Also?  Amelia can see ghosts.  […]

The Amulet Series

The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi

The Stonekeeper's Curse by Kazu Kibuishi

December 30, 2023 by thegirlwhogotoverit Leave a Comment

Wanting to get in on the fun of sitting around, drinking tea, and discussing books, the Best Nephew in Australia (11) fished out his favourite graphic novels to send home with me.  They are suspiciously pristine, to the extent that I was very concerned about reading them – the rest of us are tough on books, and he may be adopted (not really, Xan, that’s hyperbole for comedic purposes, I promise). Amulet is a series of kids fantasy/horror graphic novels, and so far I’m really […]

A Day At A Time

Smoulder by Laurel K Hamilton

Slay by Laurel K Hamilton

December 30, 2023 by thegirlwhogotoverit 3 Comments

Normally I would have needed to make these books two individual reviews, but books 29 and 30 cover so little time in the world of Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter that a single review will suffice.  If you have not read any of this series, this review is not going to encourage you to start,  or explain the basic premise.  It may convince you to save yourself, though, if you were considering it. Y’all, I think it might be time for me to give these up.  […]

The Lover by Silvia Moreno Garcia

The Lover from the Forest

The Lover by Silvia Moreno Garcia

December 30, 2023 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

I have been interested in reading Silvia Moreno Garcia for a few years. Her Amazon Original was an opportunity to dip my toes into her library. I can mark another passport stamp as she is from Mexico, and the story is set in a mysterious village. CBR15 Passport Challenge: Books from different countries (book 3 of 3) SPOILERS AHEAD! We meet Judith in “The Lover”. She lives in a small village and makes a wish to bring her lover to her. Soon, a hunter named Nathaniel […]

The slow horror of watching your life fall apart, one terrible decision after another

Come Closer by Sara Gran

December 28, 2023 by ingres77 Leave a Comment

I had low expectations going into this book, but I was in the mood for something quietly horrifying and unsettling. I saw someone praising this on Reddit, and it was freely available on Audible. And it was exactly what I wanted. Which is to say, it left me deeply unsettled. Amanda, an architect in what appears to be a happy marriage, finds her life slowly unraveling. It starts off with  a quiet tapping in her apartment that she and her husband can quite track down. […]
