Stephen King’s The Dark Tower: The Drawing of the Three: The Prisoner

The Prisoner by Stephen King

February 16, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I did get a kick out of seeing The Drawing of the Three in comic form, but how the illustrators drew Roland didn’t gibe with how he looks like in my head. We get more of a complete story in this graphic novel (since we had bits and pieces of Eddie’s story told throughout the series) so that was great to see. I just thought some things could have been drawn out a bit more and don’t know if readers really need this if they […]

Apocalypse Snow: The Terror, The Terror

The Terror by Dan Simmons

February 15, 2022 by Saube75013 Leave a Comment

Despite a few defaults (repetitive set pieces in the middle section, some predictable twists, probably too many characters), this tale of the ill fated expedition of the Royal Navy to the Arctic in the 1840s will be worth your time. Based on a true story (what fiction isn’t these days?) this mixes brilliantly exploration, survival and fantasy with a vivid style that will make you feel the cold, pain and suffering of the sailors who went to discover a passage to the north and found […]

Pearl by Josh Malerman

February 15, 2022 by TylerDFC Leave a Comment

“Sing for me, Brother Jeff. Sing for Pearl.” There is something unsettling about Walter Kopple’s farm out on Murdock Road. Something that makes you drive a little faster when going past, that makes you feel a bit like you walked through cobwebs. Jeff and Aaron don’t like visiting their grandfather’s farm because of the way it feels. They know, as does everyone, something is wrong at the farm. Something is wrong with the pigs and the large male who lords over them, Pearl. Pearl with […]

World’s End

World's End by Neil Gaiman

February 14, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

This was by no means bad, (I gave it 4 stars) but compared to the other volumes it just felt like it was missing something. The stories were all over the place and some of the text was too hard for me to read. I gave up on a few panels and just focused on the illustrations. “World’s End” follows a pair of colleagues (Brant and Charlene) who get in a car accident on their way to Chicago. Finding themselves in the middle of a […]

Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes

February 13, 2022 by katie71483 2 Comments

Read this book. Just do it. Whether it’s kindle or paper or audio, I don’t care. Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes is fan-freaking-tastic, a true escape from whatever is going on in your world. I feel like I should be up front about this: S.A. Barnes is a Facebook friend of mine, and has been for many years. For that matter, she’s been a friend to Cannonball Read. She’s been so kind as to contribute signed copies of her books* to CBR in the past […]
